Year 5 Debating

Roselea Public School’s Year 5 debating team took part in their first ever debating competition this week, against Epping Public School. The topic was “All students should cook a meal once a week” and our team had to speak to the negative side.

The team have been eagerly attending weekly lunch time practice sessions, keen to develop their skills and learn more.

During the debate, it was great to see the girls helping each other writing their rebuttals and expanding dot points to strengthen their arguments. Despite this being their very first debate, the girls spoke confidently in front of the adjudicator and the Epping PS audience.

Our feedback from the official adjudicator was all very positive and we were very pleased when she said we did a great job and all showed a lot of potential.

Our next debate is in week 5, where we will verse Epping West at home and speak to the affirmative this time.

After the debate the team was super pleased with their work and already keen for the next debate.

Chloe – “We are excited to learn more”

Ava – “We did very well for our first debate and am excited to do it again”

Livia “We got good feedback and are ready to use it for out next debate”

Myesha- “It’s always good to learn something new. Last week, I was the team advisor and wrote rebuttals which was fun”

Well done debaters, you should be very proud of your efforts!
