Maths - Overview
Number and Algebra: In Number, we have reviewed Multiplication and Division and revised strategies to solve different equations. Students were also asked to solve worded problems involving multiplication and division using the strategies C.U.B.E.S (Circle, Underline, Box, Evaluate and Solve). Also in Number we looked at prime and composite numbers. Students enjoyed completing hundreds charts identifying if the number was a prime or a composite.
In Algebra, we did a two weeks on the topic BIDMAS/BODMAS (Brackets, Indices (Order), Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction). By the end of the unit students were able to correctly identify the processes to solving different BIDMAS equations.
Measurement and Geometry: In Measurement and Geometry, students did a two week unit on Angles. In this unit we classified the different types of Angles, learnt how to use a protractor then measured and named different types of angles. Students enjoyed completing their Angles portfolio task, outlining the first letter of their names, ruling straight lines to create angles then measuring and naming the angles correctly. All students did a fantastic job completing this task.
We have recently completed the topic translation, rotation and reflection of shapes and objects. Students were able to describe and perform translations, reflections and rotations of shapes and create different pictures. We then started to explore coordinates and locate given coordinates in the first quadrant. This will help students for next term when we look at Cartesian Planes. All students particularly enjoyed playing the game Battleship with a partner.
Statistics and Probability: We began this term with the topic of Chance where students revised the likelihood of events occurring using correct terms such as certain, likely, unlikely, impossible. Students enjoyed playing chance games such as heads or tails, 4 corners, pick the marble out of the bag and more.
Students also enjoyed learning about line graphs. Students were able to use data to make a line graph, collect their own data, identify the features of a line graph and make analysis from a line graph.
Thank you to all our families for an amazing term. We hope you all have a lovely and restful break and we look forward to seeing you all in Term Three.
