Mathematics in Year One
In Ma, the Year One classes have been working on various concepts including time, place value, graphs, money and numerical operations. We have seen such fantastic progress and students overcoming challenges. The Year One students should be proud of their achievements.
Over the last few weeks, the Year One students have been revisiting Addition and Subtraction. Both 1A and 1B have been learning different strategies for solving addition and subtraction equations. The students have been working well in these areas and are starting to extend there knowledge by attempting more challenging questions!
The Year One classes have been working in diverse ways in the classroom including working independently, working with a partner, group tasks and small group work with their teacher.
In Measurement and Geometry, students used clocks and created calendars showing important times and dates of their choice.
Thank you all for a great Term Two. The students have done a wonderful job this term and should be proud of all of their achievements and effort. We look forward to another busy term ahead, including school production! Rest up and we hope you all enjoy your well deserved break.

Tricky Words
Through the InitiaLit program a range of Tricky Words are taught. These words are referred to as Tricky Words as they cannot be spelled by sounding them out. Due to the nature of the program, the sets of Tricky Words get taught in groups of three and are taught during any given lesson.
You can assist your child at home in many ways. For example try: sky writing the tricky words, writing them on paper or putting them in a highly visible area, such as the fridge and spell them aloud repeatedly. Each set of Tricky Words contains six words. Below are Term 2's tricky words.
Take Home Readers
Each week, your child is provided with the opportunity to change their hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 3-4 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.
Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought to school every Friday morning to be checked by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Friday.
Students have taken home their MultiLit eLibrary passwords so they can choose to supplement their take home reader some nights of the week.
