Year 7 Geography Rivers and Liveability Excursion
Our long-awaited Rivers excursion, originally postponed due to Term 1's heatwave, finally took place on Wednesday, May 29th. This year, we weaved our classroom learning about Place and Liveability into the adventure.
Students began their day at the picturesque Wagga Wagga Riverside Precinct. Here, some honed their artistic skills with field sketching, while others embarked on a scavenger hunt along Fitzmaurice Street. Through these activities, they delved into the features that contribute to Wagga Wagga's liveability. We were then honoured to have a talk by Mr Jason Jolley, who shared the immense value of the Murrumbidgee River for the Wiradjuri people. This insightful talk deepened our understanding of the area's rich history and connection to the natural world.
Wagga Wagga City Council offered a glimpse into the future of the city. Hosted by Christine Priest, Executive Manager of Regional Activation - Projects, students participated in interactive activities allowing all students to contribute their ideas to the WWCC Community Strategic Plan: "Wagga Wagga 2050". It was inspiring to see students actively engage in shaping the city's future. A highlight of the day was the opportunity to meet Mayor Dallas Tout. Students engaged in a lively discussion about council operations and the Mayor's vision for Wagga Wagga's development.
This successful excursion wouldn't have been possible without the fantastic organisation of Miss Anna O'Brien and the dedication of all the supervising staff.
Year 8 Interconnections Altina Wildlife Park Excursion
As part of their exploration of Interconnections in Geography, Year 8 students embarked on a fascinating field trip to Altina Wildlife Park in Darlington Point in Week 1. This immersive experience allowed them to witness firsthand the complex web of relationships between animals, their habitats, and human involvement in conservation efforts. A big thank you to Mrs Bolitho and all the teachers who made this enriching trip possible.
Stage 6 Society and Culture Excursion to Melbourne
In Week 7 of Term 1 Year 11 and Year 12 Society and Culture students spent 3 days in Melbourne as part of an exploration of the Popular Culture Depth Study. Among the highlights were a visit to Hosier Lane, Melbourne's most-celebrated laneway for street art, attending the stage show Wicked and taking part in a hip hop dance class.
Year 12 Geography Excursion to Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo
Year 12 Geography visited Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo in Term 1 as part of their unit of work on Tourism as an economic activity. Students participated in the ZooSnooz program where they spent the night at Billabong Camp within the zoo grounds. This program includes both a night tour of the nocturnal animal enclosures as well as a morning tour of the zoo before it opens to the public.
Students attended a lesson at the Education Centre based on the Stage 6 syllabus and then went on the Safari tour; an open range concept within the zoo. Fieldwork like this allows students to gain a better understanding of the spatial and ecological dimensions of the zoo.
