Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

As I write this article, I am currently in Japan as part of our International Boarder Marketing program. Alongside Mrs Kathryn Searle, Head of Boarding, we have been engaging with official government and education representatives, establishing connections and spreading the message about Clayfield. This evening, we are looking forward to hosting a Principal's Reception, offering some time to connect with both past and present families.

I am pleased to share that the capital works project encompassing the Design Technology Workshops and classrooms is set to commence during the June/July holiday period. The initial focus will be on site establishment and the demolition of MU2. Additionally, we will have two demountables on site to provide the much-needed classroom space during construction. The builders anticipate completing the project by the start of Term 2 2025.

This new facility will serve as a hub for our Design Technology and Engineering curriculum, offering students ample opportunities for hands-on exploration and collaboration. It will foster creativity and curiosity, encouraging students to engage real-world problem solving through the entire design process - from identifying issues and researching solutions to ideation, prototyping, solution refinement, and ultimately, product launch and marketing. Below are some images of the build:

Whilst I appreciate there will be some inconveniences during construction, it is our aim to keep this to a minimum. Further information will be shared prior to the commencement of construction regarding any changes to access or walkways on campus. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

As we approach our Foundation Annual Giving Day, I would like to acknowledge the ongoing support from Foundation for investing in projects that have an immediate impact on our current students. Recently we celebrated the opening of the Strength and Conditioning and Cardio rooms in the Ide Kennedy Physical Education Centre. Last year, the Foundation supported the construction of the Black Box Studio and refurbishment of the Carolyn Hauff Boarding House kitchen and dining room, and we look forward to the commencement of the Learn to Swim pool project later this year.

The Foundation is keen to build momentum and achieve even greater things for Clayfield College students in 2024. I ask that you all consider participating in our upcoming Giving Day on Wednesday 5 June - on that day, every $1 raised is doubled by our matching donors. To that end, if you would like to be a matching donor, please reach out to Meg Graham, Foundation Manager, via mgraham@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

Finally, please be sure to save the date of Sunday 28 July for our annual 'On the Green' event. With Kate Miller-Heidke headlining, this promises to be an unforgettable occasion for the College community. Keep an eye out for ticket sales opening in the coming weeks.

Kind regards,

Dr Andrew Cousins
