Wii Gaay Mentoring Program

Last week, our Wii Gaay students along with myself, participated in their first Mentoring Program zoom. This saw Matilda Craig and Harrison Roberts listening to Thomas Draper, a Gamilaraay man from Moree. Tom was a talented young sportsman, winning Australian Junior Boxing Titles and signing with the Brisbane Broncos and playing QLD Cup for the Toowoomba Clydesdales, the Broncos feeder club at the time. He is a qualified builder and owned a construction company for a number of years before transitioning into the resource sector. Tom now works for Shell as their Indigenous Operations Advisor. He shared his story with a strong focus on resilience and making good decisions in life. 

The next Mentor session is Wednesday the 5th of June with Karla McGrady. 

Reconciliation Week 

This past week, students across the school helped celebrate Reconciliation Week. I had the pleasure of speaking to Stage 2 about what Reconciliation Week is and the why it is important. Stage 2 then completed an Indigenous colouring in for Reconciliation Week that will be on showcase on the Walaay Wii space at the back of the hall. 

Cultural Learning Plan Meeting 

Parents and Carers of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are required to attend an afternoon meeting at the school tomorrow, Tuesday 4th of June at 3:30pm to complete students Cultural Learning Plans with Miss Kim Taggart AEA and teachers. 

Conference Performance Group 

The second practice for the Conference Performance Group is Thursday the 6th of June at St Edwards Primary School. Students will be picked up from St Joseph's at 9:30am with Miss Kim Taggart (AEA) and Mrs. Stacey Power (Teacher) and will return to school at 2pm. The students that are participating in this are asked to wear their sport uniform. Students are also asked to pack morning tea and a drink bottle as a sausage sizzle lunch will be provided.
