WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITY

Whether you’re interested in politics, planting trees, law-making or baking, your work experience placement at the Parliament of Victoria will be an experience you’ll remember. This is a unique opportunity to undertake a week-long placement in either the Parliamentary Sitting or Parliamentary Services program.

Parliamentary Sitting placements provide the opportunity to see the law-making process up close. Students will go behind the scenes with the staff who directly support Parliament sittings, to get a deeper understanding of our democratic processes.

Parliamentary Services placements offer a variety of opportunities that can be matched with a broad range of student interests and career goals. Students will have the option to work with staff in one of the many professional service areas that support the day-to-day business of Parliament.

Expressions of interest for terms 3 & 4 will close at 5:00pm on Friday 5 July 2024.  Interested students will be notified of the outcome of their submission no later than Friday 26 July.

ADF Presentation

On Tuesday the 21st of May the Australian Defence Force presented career opportunities to our Year 10-12 students during period 5 and 6. Presenters Captain Jayden Soldati & Sergeant Vicki Shelly shared the career opportunities available in the Navy, Army and Air Force.

The presentation helped students discover how joining one of Australia’s largest employers offers much more than just a career. Life in the ADF offers a unique experience with work-life balance, competitive salaries, free medical and dental, nationally recognized qualifications and fulfilling work. The Defence career presentation covered:

  • Roles available in all three services across the Australian Defence Force
  • Salaries, benefits, and lifestyle
  • Entry requirements, including academic standards
  • Options for sponsored university degrees and the higher education options available with Defence through the Australian Defence Force Academy (degree from University of New South Wales)
  • What a Defence Gap Year can offer

Thank you to our students for showing respect during the presentation as well as asking several questions. Should students wish to discuss career opportunities further they can book an appointment with Sue Clay, Career Advisor NCLLEN or Abby Mulquiny Career Support, Charlton College (Tuesday).
