3/4 Lord Somers Camp - Small Moment in Time

Our 3/4 students wrote about a ‘Small Moment in Time’ which is a small part of a bigger story. So you can think of it as like a watermelon is the big moment but each watermelon has lots of tiny seeds. The seeds are the small moments.

We could hear the bell ringing, it was time to meet in the amphitheater. As we raced around the corner the music started booming. Introduction time! One of the leaders was apparently a retired magician and also a moustache seller. He told us that he sold a four-hundred dollar moustache to one of the other leaders. To another leader he said he sold a three dollar moustache that you can buy at most petrol stations! I was laughing my head off!

Ace

As I faced the sky, a big wave washed over my head and I crashed into the sand. I felt exhilarated and happy when I went under the water. When Sigi, Myles and I climbed back into the canoe I felt happy and excited to be sharing a canoe with my friends.

Alaaky

My stomach was growling, I wondered when we were going to stop for bush tucker. Then we spotted a saltbush bush. I was so hungry I ate two handfuls of the saltbush. My mouth started burning from the saltiness and the taste wouldn’t go out of my mouth.

Alex

I was so nervous to hear who would be in my room and then I heard my friends names get called, we jumped up and screamed so loud. I was so happy to be with my friends. I knew this would be the best camp ever! We could not get to sleep, we were laughing all night.

Amelia

My arms were super sore as we were spinning around in the kayak, we tried to go forward but the current was pushing us back and everyone was in front of us so far away we could not catch up. One group came past us and bumped our kayak, we fell in the water, it was freezing and seaweed was all over my legs! After we got to the other side we went on to the beach. I loved finally touching the dry, warm sand.

Billie

My heart was pumping. Otis and I were very nervous. Suddenly Ms Lumsden called us to the stage. My hands were sweating, I hope the trick works. We make the audience laugh with our shoe swapping magic trick. Who would have thought Otis and I would be such great Magicians!

Billy

I was really nervous to kayak but once we got a hang of it we were going pretty fast but we were still going in circles. We had to wait for the other kids so we just sun bathed in our kayak. On the way back we got 10 points for going through the bridge. When we got back we went to the beach. I was shaking and I was getting goosebumps. It felt like it was winter.

Charlie

I felt so excited, my feet were tapping on the spot. I snapped my glow stick and I was ready to Disco!

Chloe G

My heart was pounding. I could not believe my eyes or ears! I got the most votes to get my design printed on a t-shirt. It was so exciting that I couldn’t stop smiling! My group, the Seals, wear my design. I was so proud of myself! My feet were TAP DANCING. I couldn't wait to tell my parents!

Chloe L

My heart was pounding, we were about to go in the kayaks. I thought it was going to be freezing but it was warm. We got in and in my kayak with Max and Ace. My legs were tingling. We kept on crashing into the fence. I got a big red cut. Kayaking was so funny, cool and amazing!

Dallas

The lights went off and suddenly the pop music started blaring! The glow sticks made the room look bright and festive as we danced around the room. We didn’t stop dancing and having fun until I was voiceless!

Emme

I was laughing so hard because everytime we turned we crashed into the other kayaks, we crashed into the rocks and got stuck in the sand. Then we got stuck in the sand and one of us would have to pull it out of the sand.

Flynn

My heart was racing with excitement as I was hopping in the kayak. As we went off paddling towards the end in one minute we were already stuck in quicksand so I had to get out and push us out to the deeper side. We were fighting the current so it wasn’t the easiest thing. We were bumping into the rocks and other groups that were kayaking next to us. We finally got to the end where we were running in the quicksand.

Frankie

My heart was pounding as we stepped closer and closer to the old mansion. My friends and I were peeking through the old dusty windows. It was hard to see but I was determined to see. The walls were peeling and the floor was dusty. The outside of the mansion looked like a clown's house because of all the colors and tiles. There were also little shops on the property and on each brick the builders would put their thumb in the brick so they would know which one is theirs when they tally up the money they earn per brick.

Heidi

As we sat in the kayak Halliey pushed us out into the current of the water. Suddenly we were paddling and in a race with everyone else. Paddling hard we were relieved that we came second and not last.

Gus

My heart was pounding. I noticed the other team in front. I knew we were going to lose the race. We pushed the raft into the bay and jumped in. I laughed so hard because the waves were crashing into us, the coldness of the water was painful.

Henry

Kayaking was tricky because the current of the river was flowing the opposite direction so we had to paddle hard. My muscles were screaming as I pulled the paddle through the water.

Hugo

My heart was pounding as I was watching everyone doing their act for the talent show. We were so nervous because almost everyone was doing a funny act. Then it was finally our turn and almost everyone was laughing. It made me feel so happy.

Indiana

My heart was pounding when Josh was asking who would be his four volunteers. I shot up my hand as fast as lightning. I was really hoping he would pick me. At last he picked me. I had to sit on a chair and lie on someone and then another person had to lie on me. Then they pulled out the chairs from under me and I had to use my legs as the chair. When they had pulled all of the chairs out we all fell apart. We were all laughing and it gave me a warm fuzzy feeling in my stomach.

Isabella

My feet were tingling! I was ready to dance as the teachers turned the lights off. We had heaps of glow sticks, loud music and people screaming out lyrics. It was so fun, I love dancing. The disco was one of the best things at camp!

Bel

The crowd was still laughing from the act before, I wasn’t sure if anyone would laugh that hard at ours. We started our act and I had so many butterflies flying around in my tummy. I was very nervous because at the very end of our act Billie and I did a big lift. I was only nervous because when we were practicing, I almost fell down. But we did it perfectly! Everyone was so impressed!

Ivy

I was very happy because we were going to be kayaking that day. I was in a kayak with my best friend Gus, he was in the captain seat and I was in the front seat, Hailey pushed us off into the river and we started paddling. We were fast but Charlie and Patrick were really fast and they were waiting for us over at the bridge. We got back to the shore after a bit of kayaking. They said that we could go for a short swim at the beach. When we got there it was so cold, they said we had to go back to the camp after only 3 minutes. I was so happy to be going to warm up.

James

We trudged along the wet sand through rain and wind. My legs were aching and sweating. Isabella asked Chuck how many more minutes until we were back at camp. Chucks' response was, “There is about and then he made a funny farting nose with his mouth minutes left!” Isabella asked again and he did the same thing. It was getting annoying, even in conversation he kept making that noise.

Kirra

My plate had turned into a river! I started laughing hysterically. My clumsy hands had spilled my full cup of water onto my delicious roll. I ran to put my sodden roll in the bin but instead knocked the bin over with a crash. What else could go wrong I thought to myself.

Maggie

We were laughing so hard our cheeks ached from smiling. The waves were crashing around us and dragging us back to the shore. “I don't want to die today, I would rather die tomorrow,” I called out to the others laughing.

Malakai

That was it I thought. We were stuck in the stiff, hard, sticky sand in our kayak. We weren't moving at all, we were just stuck there in the sand and now we were sinking in the sand. The cold air was hitting our skin. We shivered as we tried to get the kayak moving, are we ever going to get out of this mud!

Max

The kayak capsized as it hit the rocks. My heart was pounding because the kayak was on our heads! Laughing we lifted the wet kayak off our heads, we were laughing so much I was having trouble breathing!

Myles

“I don’t want to die today, I am very happy to die tomorrow”, Malakai said nervously. We were going around in circles and Ryan and I were cracking up laughing so much that I got the hiccups and got water in my mouth. It tasted disgusting.

Oliver

I was pretty nervous wondering if they were going to like it. Our names were called up to the stage, my heart pounding and then it started. Billy opened for us saying welcome to Otis and Billy’s awesome magic show. We made the audience laugh with our shoe swapping magic trick. My heart beat slowed down and I felt way less nervous.

Otis

Steff called out, “If you go through the stick that holds up the first bridge I’ll give you ten points”. Those ten points were ours we thought as we started paddling furiously towards the bridge.

Patrick

My heart was beating as my teachers were calling out who was in my cabin. First they called out my name, then my friends. We were all screaming in excitement. We were too excited to care about anything else. We thought how amazing this camp was going to be, it was so fun!

Pia

“I don’t want to die today. I would much rather die tomorrow” yelled my friend as we nearly fell off the kayak. The Kayak was spinning out of control, we couldn’t get into paddling on the same side at the same time. We were having the best time, we couldn’t stop laughing!

Ryan

My heart was pounding when Miss Lumsden told us our next activity at LSC. My hands were sweating as she said kayaking because I was filled with nerves. This changed as I jumped up with joy when I remembered I was in the same group as all of my friends. Relief and happiness flooded my body knowing I could share it with my friends.

Vesper

My heart was pounding with excitement as we did raft building. It was so exciting even if I had never done it before. We used wood, tubes and ropes. When we finished we went to the ocean to launch them. It was very wavy and it fell apart at the end but I still had fun.

Tong Tong

As we climbed into the kayak we were definite we could master this. The sand was like quick sand and we nearly lost Henry. The current was strong, it made us crash into the bridge. We ended like the Titanic!!!

William

We were laughing so hard we couldn’t catch our breath, we were all red faced as tears rolled down our faces, as Maggie was standing there empty handed. Not only had she scraped her soaked roll into the bin but the plate had gone in too!!

Zara A

As we walked along the beach Britt and Emma called out that they could see dolphins. We could see them playing and jumping out of the water. Everyone was excited and surprised to see them. We could have stayed all day but we needed to get to the Coolart Homestead.

Zara B

I felt nervous as we walked down to the beach to go kayaking. I felt the butterflies in my tummy.  Miss Lumsden knew I felt nervous so she asked Steff if I could go with her. We were pushed out into the water and next minute I was kayaking!

Winter

When Erin said we had screen printing I was excited. We sat down to design our logos for our tshirts and I realised that we all had to do different designs. Most of us had the same ‘Shark Taco’ design for our tshirts which was pretty cool.

Sigi

“Turn, turn, turn,” I screamed just as we were about to crash into the rocks. We all started paddling furiously but BANG, we hit the rocks! Lucky Emme got out of the kayak and pushed us back into the water.

Hazel

As we lined up for breakfast I was so excited, then all of a sudden they announced that it was pancakes and it blew my mind!
