Student Learning in 3/4G

Last term, the 3/4 level embarked on an exciting and engaging Inquiry unit focused on forces which seamlessly integrated Science and Digital Technologies. The challenge of the unit was for students to design and create their very own Rube Goldberg machines.

Throughout the term, students explored key concepts such as push, pull, speed, velocity, gravity, and tension, learning how to apply these forces in their machines. Each student completed a design brief, carefully planning how to incorporate each force to achieve the goal: to move a marble into a cup.

The design brief served as a guide, allowing students to sketch their ideas, list materials, outline their plans, document their design process with photos, and take notes on feedback and testing. This encouraged both creativity and critical thinking as they refined their machines.

At the end of the unit, the 3/4 level hosted an exciting expo to showcase their Rube Goldberg machines. Students proudly presented their final designs, explaining the forces they used and how their machines functioned, while sharing the learning journey with the school community.

It was a truly memorable and enriching experience, and the students gained valuable insights and skills along the way.
