Mind Body and Us
Welcome to our Mind Body and Us "Emotions and Resilience" unit, an exciting and informative term for students from Prep to Grade 6! In this unit, we will explore the essential elements of understanding emotions and building resilience, including managing feelings, developing coping strategies, and fostering positive relationships. Through engaging activities, interactive lessons, and hands-on experiences, students will learn how to navigate emotional challenges and make informed choices that promote their well-being. Our goal is to equip each learner with the knowledge and skills that will help them thrive both in and out of the classroom!
Prep
Throughout Term Four, in Mind Body and Us, the Prep students will learn to recognise and understand their own emotions, develop resilience, and practise important social skills like working with others and managing conflict. Over the 10 weeks, your child will explore different feelings, how to express them appropriately, and ways to handle challenges and mistakes. They will also practise collaboration and empathy, understanding the importance of positive interactions and gratitude. Through fun activities like role-play, storytelling, and group projects, we aim to help children develop emotional awareness and resilience strategies that will support them in everyday life.

Year 1
Throughout Term Four, in Mind Body and Us, the Year 1 students will learn about emotions and how to build resilience. Over the weeks, they will explore different feelings like happiness, sadness, anger, and fear, and will learn how to express and manage these emotions in positive ways. The program also helps them build problem-solving skills and understand how to seek help when needed. By learning to recognise and respond to their own emotions and those of others, students will develop empathy, resilience, and strong friendships. The goal is to equip students with emotional tools to navigate challenges and grow both socially and emotionally.

Year 2
This term in Mind, Body and Us, the Level 2 learners will be deepening their understanding of emotions and resilience in a fun and engaging way. They will explore different emotions, practice calming strategies, and learn to recognise what triggers certain feelings. We’ll also introduce the concept of resilience—bouncing back when things go wrong—and the power of positive thinking. Additionally, the learners will develop empathy, learn coping strategies, and practice problem-solving in emotional situations. By the end of the program, they’ll have a better understanding of how to manage their emotions and face challenges with confidence.

Year 3
This term in Mind, Body and Us, the Level 3 learners will explore how to identify and manage emotional triggers, develop healthy coping strategies, and respond when others’ actions cause strong feelings. They will learn how the brain can sometimes create narratives that don't align with reality and explore where emotions like anger or frustration are felt in the body, alongside ways to calm these feelings. Additionally, the learners will investigate strategies to support emotional regulation, helping them navigate social changes and physical responses to emotions, building their emotional intelligence and resilience.

Year 4
This term in Mind Body and Us, the Level 4 Students, will be focusing on building emotional resilience. They will be doing this by exploring and managing emotional and physical changes, recognising how emotional responses vary in family and friendships, and understanding the brain-body connection. They learn to identify conflicts in peer groups, understand how the brain may create narratives that conflict with reality, and explore personal blockers to success and happiness. Strategies such as self-talk, avoiding impulsive responses, and coping with bullying are introduced. Additionally, students are guided to apply techniques for managing worry and anger, enhancing emotional control and confidence.

Year 5
This term the Year 5 students will be inquiring into Emotions and Resilience. Through this topic the students will build emotional awareness and resilience. Together the students will be exploring the positive and negative effects on emotions and the brain’s role in emotional responses. Students discover the physical signs of emotions and the impact of feelings on decision-making and social interactions. They learn about resilience, defining it and practicing strategies such as positive self-talk, mindfulness, and problem-solving. Through role-plays, group discussions, and reflective activities, students develop skills to recognise emotional triggers and apply coping mechanisms in challenging situations.

Year 6
Throughout Term Four, In Mind, Body and Us, the Year 6 Students will be unpacking "Emotions and Resilience". This unit of learning will focus on emotional self-awareness, regulation, and relationship-building, through identifying and understanding emotions, followed by exploring how emotions impact decision-making. Students learn emotional regulation techniques and build resilience through coping strategies. Positive relationships and empathy are explored as key components of emotional well-being. The lessons address managing stress, anxiety, and handling failure, emphasising strategies to overcome setbacks and build emotional strength. Students also develop skills in setting emotional boundaries, enhancing their ability to maintain healthy relationships.

How can you support your child’s Mind Body and Us learning at home?
- Ask your children throughout the day to describe to you how they are feeling.
- Look at images of people in books and magazines and discuss how the people may be feeling by their facial expressions and body language.
- As a family, discuss the strategies you could use to cope with different emotional situations.
