RESIDENTIAL
The weather is changing to warmer days now; this is, of course, great for everything and makes everyone feel better on days like the spring ones we are experiencing currently.
It is also great weather for snakes, with several sightings in and around the campus over recent weeks. Can I please just reiterate the need to keep the external doors of the dorms closed? There is a chance, as we experienced earlier in the year, that we could end up with some in the dorms.
Hay fever is quite prevalent at the moment. It is just a reminder for those who suffer to take preventative measures to ensure the best possible outcomes at this time.
Unplug
Yesterday, at very short notice, we joined a National Day to Unplug from all forms of social media. Once again, it was another great initiative and as it was so close to Beyond Blue Day, we figured it would be a no-brainer to support.
The Student Council was asked for their opinion around the day and agreed we get involved. We didn’t do any fundraising around the day as we had already supported Beyond Blue this week, but maybe we can split them next year and support both financially.
It was a day to put down the phone and not be on any social media; instead, encourage everyone to have face-to-face conversations without the ever-present pressure that social media presents to us all daily. It is hard to quantify student support, but it would have been worth it if some of them found that they could live without social media for the day.
Halloween
Next Thursday, students are undertaking a Halloween-themed dinner; with the help of the kitchen staff, food will be served outside in the pergola area and everyone will be encouraged to dress for the evening. Students have been busy making decorations in readiness for the evening, thanks to Ms Taylors' art classes. This should be a great evening.
