Infants and Primary
Infants
Welcome back to Term 4 to all our students and their families, and an especially warm welcome to the new students and families that have made the move to Boorowa and our school this term – we are excited to have you as part of our community.
This term is always a fun and very busy term with all the end of year activities, holidays and Christmas. To help prevent missing out on anything, please keep a close eye out for information on Compass and in the Newsletter.
Our Kindergarten Orientation program has kicked off already with students and their families joining us last Friday. We are very excited to be welcoming them back for their first real ‘taste’ of ‘big school’ over the next few Fridays. Our Year 5 students are looking forward to finding out who their ‘Buddy’ will be, and our Kindergarten students are excited to be not the youngest at school anymore. The first Kindy-start morning is Friday 1 November.
Term 4 is when our ‘No Hat, Play in the Shade’ mantra comes back into play. Please remember to send a named school bucket hat to school each day. Thank you.

Term 4 in Kindergarten is really all about continuing to develop and consolidate our reading and writing skills, building our number capacity and developing our independence in learning tasks in preparation for Year 1. Students are working daily on focusing for longer periods, developing strategies to help problem solve themselves and staying on task without being distracted by others. There is still so much to learn while in Kindergarten, so being focused and ready to learn is a key skill.
We have a big focus on writing during Term 4, with students being encouraged to challenge themselves to write more than 1 or 2 sentences. They are also building their ability to check their work and make sure it can be read by someone else – they are quickly learning the importance of taking the time to write neat letters and remember finger spaces.
Our Mathematics focus has been on measurement and we have used our body, including our arm span to measure things longer and shorter than our own arm span and explored the mass of different grocery items. Many students were surprised at how heavy a bag of groceries can be! Over the next fortnight we will be looking at finding halves, making equal shares and learning to estimate.
Year 1
Welcome back for term 4!
This fortnight, students in year 1 have been settling back into routines. We have discussed the importance of bringing school bucket hats to school as per our school rules this term. A reminder to please ensure your child’s name is on their hat so that if it goes missing, it can be returned to its owner.
In English, students have explored narratives. We have engaged with a few texts written by Oliver Jeffers and have experimented with writing our own imagined stories that follow a similar sequence of events to this authors’ books.
In Mathematics, Year 1 have become super stars at identifying and using fractions in problem solving. All students can accurately halve and quarter numbers or objects and recognise how to complete an equal share. Well done Year 1! Over the next fortnight, we will look at solving complex number problems.
The PBL focus this fortnight has been ‘celebrating diversity’. Year 1 has held many rich discussions about the various diversities we have within our school. We have been learning to recognise that we can learn more from people who are different to us and can be accepting when diverse needs mean receiving different treatment from teachers and peers.
This Friday is the Boorowa Tough/ Netball carnival. Year 1 will attend school as a normal Friday school day in full sports uniform. We will be enjoying various games at school in preparation for when students are old enough to attend this day next year.
As always, please contact me through the school if you have any queries.

Primary
Welcome back to all students and families to term 4 for 2024. We are excited for this term, especially with the improved weather and chances to learn outside in the sunshine.
A few reminders:
Term 4 is ‘No Hat, Play in the Shade’ rule for BCS K-6. Students must be wearing school bucket hats, or they will spend their playtimes in the shade.
The Y3-6 Primary Excursion is set for Tuesday 3rd December. The students will be in Wagga for the day (7:30am-6:00pm Approx.). Y3/4 will visit FLIPOUT and Year 5/6 will visit VORTEX. We will then check out a few museums and galleries, and then a quick stop at the Junee Chocolate Factory on the way home. We have focused specifically on cost-effective excursions this year in order to help the highest number of kids attend. The total cost for the day is $100 per student and details are available via the COMPASS app.
Our canteen is open Wednesday-Friday this term, so lunch orders can be placed in the morning of these days.
We are looking forward to the Touch/Netball Carnival this Friday. Not all students got their first choice of Netball or Touch, however we had to make tough decisions to ensure there were enough teams full of kids to enjoy the day.

5/6 Classroom
The year 5/6 class have almost finished our unit on Pip Harry’s August & Me. This has been a great unit of work, and a first time for all of us. We look forward to writing our book reviews and then moving on in our English learning. In Maths we are focusing on word problems and problem-solving processes. This is a major part of Maths and our times tables and number facts knowledge are always important. In Science, we have started a unit of ‘FORCES’ – which we explore rockets, gravity, aspects of movement and physics.
Unfortunately, a small number of our classmates have made some poor choices of late – choosing to be mean towards other students, and at times, towards adults in the school. We are leaders of the school in 5/6 – and all of us contribute to the overall school environment. I strongly support parents having serious conversations with their children about choices made at school – and I encourage parents to contact me if they have concerns or would like to discuss any issues. This is something that can be supported both at home and school.
As always, please get in touch if you require any further information: Jason.stuart3@det.nsw.edu.au
