Grade 1 Community News

The Grade 1s have had an excellent start to the last term of school. They have settled in very well and are demonstrating our school values exceptionally. We are so proud of our Grade 1s!

In reading this term our students have just begun our fairy tales' unit. In this unit students are learning all about the characteristics of fairy tales. This exciting unit has been extremely engaging and has really helped to develop our student’s comprehension skills. We have also been reading a very interesting serial text, Matilda by Roald Dahl. This text has allowed for rich discussions and deep reflection. The students are really enjoying reading this text with their teachers.

In Maths, we have started our new topic on Fractions. In this unit our students are learning how to find halves of shapes and collections. To do this our students are using a variety of mental strategies and physical resources. Students are responding extremely well to this unit which is evident through an increase in student engagement.

In Writing, we have been continuing our unit on persuasive texts. In this unit our students have been doing their best to convince their audience of a topic. Our students have even begun incorporating persuasive devices such as high modality, exaggeration and rhetorical questions. We are seeing such amazing writing from our grade 1s.
