Student Excellence
Drama (grade 1/2/5/6 students):
On Wednesday 9/10 selected students from grade 1, 2, 5 and 6 participated in a Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES) event hosted by Drama Victoria. Grade 1/2 students had to use their imagination to change ‘spike’ (a spikey ball) into another object. They had to act out what their object was and everyone else had to guess it.
Students then had to use their body to make different statues and think creatively about how they could move their body into different positions.
After that, students were given 3 words which they had to incorporate into a short story/play and then share it back to the rest of the group.
All students loved the games and activities and from today. They showed creative thinking throughout the session and really enjoyed the acting components.
Grade 5/6 students had this to say about their experience:
“It was really good to get out of our comfort zone and try new things. Everyone was out of their comfort zone, so it was good to not be alone.”
“We played fun games and activities that helped us learn about critical thinking and helped us to think things through. We really enjoyed today and think students next year should be able to take part in this event.”
Students loved playing a game called ‘What are you doing?’ which involved them acting and thinking on the spot. They also had to act as different furniture pieces and persuade people as to why they should not be thrown out. Students worked in teams to create different objects with their bodies.
This group worked together to create a helicopter.
These two groups created cars.
PrimeSCI! (grade Prep/1/2 students): Recently, our Prep, Grade 1, and Grade 2 students had the incredible opportunity to participate in the PrimeSCI! Victorian Challenge and Enrichment Series (VCES) event. This engaging program aimed to spark curiosity and foster a love for science among our youngest learners.
Students learnt about forces through a variety of hands-on activities and interactive workshops designed to introduce students to foundational scientific concepts in a fun and engaging way. Students explored the topic of forces and, with the guidance of a skilled facilitator, our young scientists engaged in experiments, collaborated with their peers, and discovered the joy of scientific inquiry.
The enthusiasm and excitement was visible as students delved into experiments, asked questions, and shared their observations. This enriching experience not only enhanced their understanding of scientific principles but also encouraged teamwork, creativity, and critical thinking.
We are proud of our students for their curiosity and eagerness to learn. A big thank you to the PrimeSCI! team for organising such an inspiring event and to our dedicated teachers for their support. We look forward to more opportunities that allow our students to explore the fascinating world of science and continue their journey of discovery!

Maths Games Day (grade 5/6 students): On Monday, October 28, a team of our brightest young mathematicians from Grade 5 and 6 participated in the MAV Maths Games Day, hosted by the Mathematical Association of Victoria. Competing against 92 schools from across the state, our students demonstrated exceptional teamwork, problem-solving skills, and perseverance. After a day filled with challenging mathematical puzzles, brain-teasing games, and collaborative activities, one of our teams achieved an impressive third-place finish!
The MAV Maths Games Day engaged students in mathematics beyond the classroom, encouraging critical thinking, collaboration, and a love for learning. Each challenge on the day tested our students' ability to think creatively, work as a team, and tackle complex problems under time constraints. Our students tackled every challenge with enthusiasm and resilience, making us all incredibly proud.
Congratulations to our talented teams that took part this year.
