Grade 6 Community News
Greeting Grade 6 Families!
We’re already at the end of week 4. Time is ‘flying’!
Learning is in full swing. Students have returned with a positive mindset and are all raring to go. Learning has been exciting and challenging for our future high schoolers.
Reading:
In Reading, we have started learning about types and features of poems. Students are confidently unpacking, identifying, explaining and analysing these. The skill of discovering the various types of language Features, is proving to be exciting new learning. They’ve also enjoyed creating their own and realising what great poets they are. Stamping to the rhythm of different poems is proving to be great fun! Learning about the different rhyme schemes is interesting new knowledge. You could ask them to share their understanding of:
Writing:
In writing, there is a lovely buzz with the students working really hard on their Scrapbooking. The focus here is of revisiting their memories from when they started their formal school adventure.
Students are practising the genre of recounting and descriptive writing with an intense focus on sentence structure and the use of language features and descriptive words.
The collection of items and accessories are slowly filling up the cupboard. Thank you for sending stuff that is helpful for this task.
Groups have created their group norms and are striving to work collaboratively as a team for every task.
Maths:
In maths, students have been learning about probability with the focus on chance. They have an understanding of how LIKELY of UNLIKELY it is that something will happen. We’re also practising our converting skills where we convert a fraction to a percentage and then to a decimal. Students are enjoying playing around with money activities where they have to find discount percentages of items bought in a real-life situation. The most enjoyable part was where they had to create their own investigations and share their presentations with class.
Vocabulary:
Our vocabulary lessons comprise words directly from the poems that we’re studying this term.
Friendly reminders:
As are scrapbooking this term can families please continue collecting and bringing pictures, old work, certificates and anything else that would look great in our scrapbooks. Don’t forget, if you can’t print your images, you can always email them to the class teacher to print.
Graduation: Don’t forget consent forms and payment for graduation is due 30th October!
The Year 6 Team.
