Foundation/Year 1

In Foundation and Year 1, we have been diving into the fascinating world of minibeasts! Over the last few weeks, we have been learning about butterflies, spiders and ladybirds, discovering their habitats, lifecycles and unique characteristics. The students have enjoyed learning all about these amazing creatures. I wonder which minibeast we will learn about next...?

Audrey - Butterflies are beautiful. They have big wings when they come out of the chrysalis.

Ezra - Wolf Spiders are one of the most deadliest spiders in the world for other animals. Also, wolf spiders and tarantulas have a very painful bite.

Abigail - Butterflies are beautiful and they have colourful wings. I also like that butterflies drink nectar from flowers. Spiders carry their spider eggs wherever they go.

Liam - Butterflies can come out of the chrysalis in one week.

Valentino - Some spiders can eat frogs, flies and young birds. Also, some spiders can make webs as big as two city buses. The jumping spider is the best jumper in the world. Elytras help ladybugs fly.

Ruan - The tarantula is a well known spider. Butterflies can camouflage with wood, water or other animals. The difference between moths and butterflies is that butterflies come out of a chrysalis and moths come out of a cocoon.

Aiden - The bird eater tarantula can eat young birds.

Bruno - The butterfly can camouflage to hide from birds.

Stella - Spiders wrap their prey in silk.

Year 2/3

Hello Families,

I hope you enjoyed the extra long weekend. It has been a very short week for us in class. A part of a daily morning routine is the class prayer. We thought it would be nice to share with you the prayer which the children wrote together as a class and the prayer mat they all contributed to. Each morning we take some time to breathe, say the class prayer and other individual prayers around the mat. This is a special time and the children seem to enjoy this greatly. Have a FANTASTIC weekend.

Dear Diary, yesterday at Don Bosco we had way too much fun. I was super dooper nervous because IT WAS THE FIRST TIME EVER!!!  Do you know how fun it was? There was a bunny named Winter and another one named Snow, ‘So cute’. There was some kind of parrot that can talk and her name was Susanna. I liked the bunnies more ‘Shhh’.

Anyway this is how we got there, we caught a bus and then a train. Back to Don Bosco, there was a trampoline, table tennis, air hockey and more! I really loved Don Bosco and then there was …. Basketball!!!  After a while I ate my food, all my food.

Anyways … We will go next year …. I think?

After that we went back to school, we got pizza, which we made, and ice cream and drinks and watched a movie.

Raffaela

Although after a while my back hurt. I played with my sister a lot when we were there. I had a great time except for when I hurt my back. After that we came back to school and I went home.

Don Bosco was a fun place, let’s recap. First we went to the bus and waited a few minutes till it came. We went on the bus and got off at the train station. Then we walked for a bit and there it was, Don Bosco. We went inside and met a nice old man who told us some stuff about being friends. Then I took off my shoes to go on the trampoline, that took too long so I just went to train in basketball. Then Kayoni came and we did a match and of course I won. Then Sai and Massie came so me and Kayoni teamed up and we ‘2v2’ and again we won. After that I went to the trampoline because there was a free spot. It was quite fun. I played table soccer and I won again. Then me and Eva grabbed our bags to eat. I had an Up and Go to energise myself. Then me and Eva went to this ramp thing and played for a while, then two hours were over and we went back to school with the same transport.

Laura

Year 4 / 5  Learning in our Library!

In the Library, we have been learning about Jeannie Baker. She is a fantastic author who wrote many books such as Circle, Window, My Place and Where the Forest meets the Sea. Her books are so interesting and unlike any other author, she uses collage with her drawings to make it all look nice! Also, the book Circle, is a really nice book and it teaches us about Godwits, which is a bird. Overall, Jeanne Baker is a really good author and we recommend her books for everyone to read.   Callix and Raffaele

This term in the Library, Rosetta introduced the Dewey System and we have been focusing on this. Today, Rosetta read us a story book by the author Jeannie Baker called Circle. It was about an Australian bird called the Godwit. It has a lot of details and color in it. Note - we recommend students read this book by Jeannie Baker.

By Stephanie and Tiffany

Jeanne Baker has a lot of books. Today we read her book Circle. It was mostly about Godwits migration. There was also a disabled boy who wanted to fly and the more we read the book, he was getting better. Jeannie Baker’s books also have illustrations that she makes with collage. They all look very good. Also, we have been learning about the Dewey System, which makes it easier to find books in the Library. We hope to learn more in the Library.   By Keone and Tristan

This term during Library sessions, we have been focusing on an author called Jeannie Basker. The books that she writes have a unique type of illustration because she uses collage in all her pictures. Some of the books that she has written are Circle, Window, My Place and Where the Forest meets the Sea. Today in the Library, we read the book Circle with Rosetta, which in our opinion we all really liked!

By Kaitlyn, Aleisha and Cody

This week, we got the chance to do some stock taking of books, to help Rosetta, our Librarian. This means we had to rescan books that are on the shelves to make sure that there are no lost books, or books that have not yet been returned. We did this job because we are the class’ Library helpers. As we were doing this, we went through and saw some amazing books that we had not seen before! We had a great time doing this stocktaking! By Allie and Natalie

This term in the Library, we have been learning about the Dewey System. The Dewey System is in different categories and it places the books on the shelf by subject, using numbers from 000 to 999. It also has different types of books, for example, animal books is 558 in the number category. It feels wonderful learning new things in the Library.

A Universal Time : Strive For Greatness

By  Bhavin D

It started on an ordinary Friday night. I was lounging in my room, having just finished my homework, when I decided to dive into Roblox. I stumbled upon a game called A Universal Time, its vibrant thumbnail promising adventure. With a click, I was pulled into a swirling vortex of light, and suddenly, I wasn’t in my room anymore.

I blinked, disoriented, and found myself on a floating island. The air crackled with energy, and everywhere I looked, other players darted around, their avatars clad in fantastical costumes. A shimmering interface appeared in front of me, displaying stats, missions, and a chat box filled with frantic messages.

“Welcome, Player!” it chimed in a cheerful voice. “You are now in A Universal Time! Let’s begin your adventure!”

“Adventure? How did I get here?” I stammered, still trying to comprehend my new surroundings.

“You are here because you entered the game’s realm,” the interface replied. “You are a Player of Destiny. Your mission is to discover the truth of your arrival and the secrets of this universe.”

“Okay, but how do I get home?” I asked, my heart racing.

“Completing quests will provide clues,” it replied. “Let’s choose your first quest!”

I hesitated. Panic bubbled within me, but a thrill of adventure flickered just beneath the surface. I clicked on the “Quests” tab and scanned the options. “Defeat the Phantom Wraith” caught my eye. An eerie image accompanied the title, depicting a shadowy figure.

“Great choice!” the interface exclaimed. “You’ll find the Phantom Wraith in the Shadow Realm. Let’s teleport you there!”

Before I could protest, a flash of light engulfed me, and I was standing on a dark, foggy island. The distant echoes of battle filled the atmosphere, and adrenaline surged through me. I spotted the Phantom Wraith, a menacing figure with glowing red eyes. Instinctively, I pressed keys on my keyboard, unsure of what I was doing.  “Use your abilities!” the interface urged. “Quickly!”

Abilities? I glanced at the interface, which displayed options. I selected “Energy Blast” and felt a surge within me. I unleashed a blast at the Wraith, and to my shock, it hit! The creature shrieked, its form flickering.

“Keep attacking!” it shouted. I struck again, my confidence building with each hit. With one final blast, the Phantom Wraith exploded into pixels.

“Quest complete!” the interface announced. “You’ve gained experience and a clue!”

A glowing orb floated toward me, bursting into confetti and revealing a new item: a Spectral Compass. I felt a mix of excitement and confusion. “What’s next?” I asked.

“This compass will guide you to your next clue. But first, let’s talk about your situation,” it replied. “Right,” I said, my heart still racing. “So, why am I here?”

“The game’s code is unstable, and your presence has triggered an anomaly. You must gather fragments of the game’s essence to restore balance. Only then can you return home.”

“Anomaly? Fragments?” I echoed, overwhelmed.

“Follow the compass,” it said. “Your journey is just beginning.

The Life Changing Discovery

By Katelin H

Me and Omochi were walking along the brink of the riverbank, it was the year 1817 and the arrival of the First Fleet was just a few hateful decades ago. Me and Omochi were both enjoying the wistfulness of the river, the silence of our surroundings, and the cool water smashing against the cold damp algific rocks. Peace was in the air. Just then, out of the blue, ruining the delightful peace and quiet, Omochi unexpectedly blurted out hastily, “It's so unfair! How come they took everything! From me, us, Australia!”I then looked at him blankly, mortified at his sudden outburst of fuming red rage, but at the same time a tinsy bit mad at him myself, for ruining the silence, “Sorry,”he then added guiltily a few seconds later. I could tell he was waiting for a response, though normally I’d expect that from him. Classic Omochi! Finally to sooth his utterly impatient mind, I asked, “Are you ok?” He then looked up at me, but kept his mouth zipped shut, stuck his head back down at the hard concrete ground covered in dry leaves and dirt, and uttered something that I couldn't quite make out. Now, I could really tell that something was up.

We kept on walking down the path in silence, though this time it was a bit too quiet to be peaceful. It was getting late, well for me anyway. Mum had specifically recalled no going out past sunset. Or something like that… But maybe, just maybe, I could just say that I drank too much alcohol, so I forgot about our agreement that week. No. She just would not buy it! I mean, after all I was only 16 and a half, so technically…

No, don't do it! Don’t lie!

Me and Omochi were now nearly at the end of our stroll. I could tell, because the heavy winter’s breeze was starting to kick in. Oh how I miss the warm rays of sunshine! Anywho, my chauffeur was about to arrive soon, good timing I guess, seeing that we were about done. We were just a few small steps away from the wooden archway exit, that I could practically see the tartish black car, not physically though. As I was still pondering about what Omochi had said, I knew that I shouldn’t be overthinking it. But, I was curious. So with just a few steps left I asked,“ What did you mean when you said that they took everything?”I guess he was surprised that I asked that because then he leant into my ear and murmured“ Tomorrow.” And with that we were at the old wooden archway, and he walked away, abruptly, leaving me here, starstruck.

That night my mind was overflowing with the simplest word in the dictionary tomorrow. I mean what did tomorrow even define clearly? Tomorrow he’ll tell me? Tomorrow I’ll find out? Aghhh! What a bunch of boloney! I slammed down on the bed, fatigued. The cushions and doonas were just so warm and comfy, so I really couldn’t resist the temptation!... Maybe just take a small nap, just for 5 minu-Zzzzzzzzzzzz.

Suddenly I awoke to the sound of a loud heartbreaking beeping noise. I swished my body around to catch a slight glimpse at the clock… 2:29am! I indeed must’ve dozed off! I really can't blame myself to be honest though, it was just so mellow!... Ping! “What was that? ”I puffed with alarm. I turned over to where my study desk was, the laptop shining an eye irritating white. Aghhh! I must’ve left it on whilst researching the definition of what tomorrow means! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid! But once  my poor eyes had finally regained potential focus, I observed the laptop once more before I went back to bed. It wasn’t flashing because I left it on, it was flashing because of my subscription to the American news channel Fox news!

I knew I should have unsubscribed years ago! Foolish Jenny, never should’ve  listened to her unappreciated nagging! I felt dumbfounded. Subscribing to the most popular American news show when I live on the other side of the world. I was about to hop back into bed, when my clumsy shoulder brushed against my keypad. Ring! I thumped back down on the cold hard floor to shut the laptop off once more, but instead my eyes got glued to the news report. The arrival of the First Fleet immediately affected the Eora nation, the traditional Aboriginal owners of the Sydney area. Violence between settlers and the Eora people started as soon as the colony was set up.  I was traumatized! What!? I snatched my laptop off the desk and hurriedly started searching on the web for an answer. It was like a maze in there! So many links, sites and  published knowledge for the world to see. So much to search! So much to look at! Which one is the correct website?! I got desperate. Clicking lots of links and websites that probably would have been scams. Thousands of dollars could have been drained. Mum won’t be happy.  But I didn’t care at that moment as I was too busy sear- Eureka! A huge smile burst upon my face, ready for the wonderful news that I was about to read. But like the speed of light, it swiftly turned upside down.

My eyes saged as my body slowly slumped down to the ground, scraping my left knee against the white plastic chair. My eyes widened as I read more and more of the page.

Captain Arthur Phillip led the first fleet to Australia in 1787 May 13th.

Captain Arthur Phillip led the first fleet to Australia in 1787 May 13th.

Captain Arthur Phillip led the first fleet to Australia in 1787 May 13th.

That was the sentence that kept on buzzing around in my mind.

I was heartbroken, inconsolable, crestfallen. WHY!? Why him! I searched further, tears running down my cheeks, my eyes bloated. Nevertheless I was still met with the same dead end!

Captain Arthur Phillip led the first fleet to Australia in 1787 May 13th.

Captain Arthur Phillip led the first fleet to Australia in 1787 May 13th.

Captain Arthur Phillip led the first fleet to Australia in 1787 May 13th.

So I, Abigail Phillip was one of the descendants of an Aboriginal murderer and kidnapper?! And that's when I realized that Omochi was really and undoubtedly homesick.

Lost

Isabella Xu

My watch beeps. It tells me that I have walked for yet another hundred steps. I can’t take it anymore. I’ll never be able to make it to the campsite. Guess I’ll just go missing, with no-one to have any trace of me. I dropped onto a rock and slung my bag onto my lap. I scurry through my bag for my emergency rescue button. I freeze. Thoughts rush past me as I find nothing in my special items pocket. No! This can't be. I’m alone, with only three sticks of beef jerky (yuck), and only one bottle of water left!

I stare into the deep, dark wilderness and think of ridiculous ways to survive. I scan the area I'm in and then I spot branches. A TON of branches. Then a crazy thought hit me. What if I can make a tent out of branches and leaves?

“I mean, we could try!”

I jumped in shock. First of all, did I really say my thought  out loud? And also, WHO WAS THAT!?

“Who are you and why are you hiding?” I asked.

“Oh, it was fun seeing you freak out. Now here’s your little emergency button.” replied the girl. Standing behind a dried up bush was a girl that didn’t look much older than me. I felt a wave of relief come over me.  “Oh, by the way, my name is Lily.”

“Sarah.” I responded. I grabbed the button and pressed it. Nothing. I kept pressing it non-stop. Still nothing! “Ok, I took it, but I didn’t break it! I swear!” protested Lily. No! So I am going to go missing forever! Suddenly I came back to my senses and started looking for good sturdy branches. “So we are doing this! I thought you were joking!” exclaimed Lily.

After what seemed like an eternity, I finally finished my little tent, but I realized that there was barely any room. Me and Lily decided that everyday, Lily would hunt for food and I’d be working and expanding the tent!

One day, when Lily came back from her daily walk in the woods, we were just talking until a low growl faded in the bushes. I sat there frozen. Two moonlit eyes flickered in the bush. I stood up slowly. “Creature. Right behind you. Stand up slowly.” I frantically whispered to Lily. She stood up and the creature seemed to know what we were doing. It lunged at us! Lily and I ran for our lives! After a while of running, I couldn’t do it anymore. I could hear Lily’s hard panting, and I could feel my heart thumping. As my eyes adjusted to the dim light, I noticed a faint light. I made my way though, and there it was! The campsite! I turned around to share the fantastic news with Lily. “Lily, look!” Lily was nowhere to be seen.

GHOSTS

By Veer

Some People think ghosts are scary

Some people think that ghosts are evil

Some people even wonder if ghosts are real

But you decide are ghosts ideal?

Lurking in the dark, watching us vulnerable creatures stumbling upon

As the clock chimes twelve (ding dong)

One by one, picking us out of this atomic life and banishing us from the cruel face of this planet

Maybe the Egyptians were right, there might be an afterlife,

still, we miss our old life, but who knows… it might be better

Zombies as slaves and spider-webs as minions

The ghost, still a mystery, doesn't give a damn about their opinions

Still not sure us humans do prayers and superstitions

To keep the bad away is our ambition

Another day we survive phew

Just keep praying the next day, it isn't you.
