From the Principal
Good morning everyone, I hope you have had a great week.
Another busy week for Mornington. Year 8 students have been working very hard on artifacts for the Showcase that took place on Wednesday. It was great to see so many families join us in the Learning Centre to view student work. It was also wonderful to highlight the amazing work of the Systems Engineering students. Fantastic learning is happening at our great school.
Children’s Week runs from Saturday 19 October to Sunday 27 October.
It is a national celebration that recognises the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children. There are many free activities for students to participate in across the state of Victoria. Many local councils will be involved.
The theme for the week is ‘Children have the right to a clean and safe environment’, based on Article 24 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Have a wonderful week. Thank you for your continued support.
Linda Stanton
Principal

Middle School
Dear families and carers,
Yesterday, we were proud to host our Year 8 Showcase, featuring an impressive array of Humanities and Science exhibitions. Our Year 11 Systems Engineering students also displayed their remarkable projects, while Year 8 students supported the event by selling icy poles for our fundraiser, and VM students fired up the BBQ. The atmosphere was lively with performances from our Drum Corps and Senior School Band, showcasing the vibrant life we foster at Mornington Secondary College.
A special moment for me was reconnecting with two former students—now parents—who I taught in Year 12. It was such a joy to hear about their journeys and even more incredible to learn that their children are now part of our school community. Moments like these highlight the lasting bonds that are formed here.
What always strikes me when speaking with past students is how vividly they remember their time at school—whether it’s particular events, friendships, or even small incidents. It’s a reminder that school is about so much more than academic learning; it’s a place where lifelong friendships are forged and important social skills are developed, all of which contribute to thriving in everyday life.
Wishing you a great week.

Senior School
To students and families of the Mornington Senior School,
Two weeks into term 4 and our Year 12 VCE VM students have finished their final interviews and requirements for their certificates. I had the pleasure of sitting in on some interviews and it was a great reminder of the power in this pathway. To see and hear about the growth in skills and capabilities of our students as they progressed through their VM program, VET course and work placements was reaffirming. Our year 12 ATAR students have also finished their last full week of schooling ever and while they have plenty of work in front of them over the next month, the finish line is most definitely in sight.
Year 11s are now in their final areas of study in their respective programs before their exams and unit 2 presentations (VM students). It’s important for our year 11 ATAR students to really hone their skills over the next 2 months before they become year 12 students and every mark counts towards their ATAR.
Year 12 music performance
I was able to share the Year 12 music performance final set rehearsal on Wednesday night before they perform in their VCAA exams in the coming days. The Year 12 band including Molly Emery, Michael, Jackson, George, Emma, Patrick and Abi performed their whole set list to parents, friends and staff for over 30 mins (they need to be under 35 mins in the exam) and sounded fantastic. Molly Pierce-Decker then performed her VCE music repertoire set. I wish them all the best.
Year 11 formal
Our Year 11s had their formal on Friday night of week 1 and as usual, the behaviour was exemplary. Seeing all our young people dressed up and looking fabulous has made me think we should maybe change the dress code here and ask students to wear ties, polished leather shoes 😉Maybe not but it is great to see our students having fun in each other’s company in a different environment from school. My thanks goes to Dr Keough, Grace Evans (acting Year 11 Coordinator), Ethan and Carter (Year 11 Captains) and everyone who had a role in planning the night (including the staff who attended on a Friday night!).

Singing Up a Storm
On Tuesday night we had a musical treat as the Year 12 music students put on their final performance before their performance exam. What a great set of budding muso’s we have! By the time you read this the students will have already been put through their paces, however we all wish them every success.
Abi Johnson on piano, Jackson Dowling on lead guitar, Patrick Adler on drums, Michael McLaren on flute, George Whatman on bass guitar and Molly Emery on lead vocals.
Molly Pierce-Decker solo performance
George Whatman on guitar, Simon Dewar (Teacher) on drums, Emma McPartland on vocals and Harry Jennings (Year 11) on bass.
Exams….Ready…..Set…..
Assistant Principal Nick Evans and Curriculum Leader Michelle Barnes lead senior school staff in a workshop on how we are preparing students for the up and coming examination period. There were lots of great ideas floating around. One of the big takeaways for parents and students however is the importance of student ownership of the study process. Teachers will be providing an unending stream of tips, tricks and practice activities. It's up to the students to take action on these. It’s the old adage “you can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink". We will be putting lots of water out there for the kids, lets work together to get them to take a BIG drink.
Kind regards,
Mike Parker
Assistant Principal
Year 11 Formal
The Year 11 formal was a big success, with students and staff enjoying a fantastic evening full of dancing and fun! A special thank you goes to Evangeline Romage for her incredible work with the disco decorations and photography, and Kate Wilson for ensuring all students arrived and departed safely.
We also appreciate the support and amazing dancing skills from Dana Lamb, Kerstin Lindsay, and Sarah Jeffs. A memorable highlight was Nick Evans's rendition of the Nutbush, and finally, a big shout-out to Jasmine Keough and Mick Williams for their exceptional organization of the event. It truly was a night to remember!

Students enjoyed trying to pick up the crabs, and determining whether they were male or female by observing the markings on the underside of the crabs body. Students were also able to classify the crabs by there scientific name, using dichotomous keys and photos of local crabs.
