Student Learning
What's been happening in Foundation L
Term 4 is always a busy one for our Foundation students, beginning with the excitement of finding out what role the children will learn for our Christmas Nativity play later in the term. We have been busily practising two lessons a week and this will increase as we start to put it all together ready for the big production.
We were also excited to meet the students in LEAP when they visited on Thursday. There are some familiar faces and students making connections already.
In our classroom, we have had fun with Mrs Newbury in Technology building a house for The 3 Little Pigs. We have had to design, build and test our house against the big bad wolf (a fan)!
In Maths our focus is on addition. The students have begun to learn the secret codes for strategies in addition. We have learnt how to count on (CO), use turn arounds (TA), subitise (S), know rainbow facts or friends of ten (RF) and addition doubles (D). We have some favourite games, Dotty Six and fill the 10 Frames that we like to play in spare time too!
Our iUnit this term is called Special Place. We have been learning about places we know and places that might be special to others. We are looking forward to sharing our own special place projects to our class.
We completed our Friendology program this term. We have learnt about healthy friendships and how to use the friend-o-meter to help us understand how we feel, how our body language can make a difference and how to get our friendships back into a green zone.

Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge has finished for 2024, and I am very pleased to announce 118 of our students participated this year, including many of the Foundation students. It’s great to see so many students enthusiastic about reading.
A special mention to all the students who completed more than one reading sheet, especially Ariella (Year 6) who filled out an incredible 10 record sheets (that’s 120 books!). While this effort is not recorded by the Premier’s Reading Challenge, I am encouraged to see students extending themselves.
A very special thanks must go to Mrs Dolman who did the onerous task of inputting all the data for our students and collating our medals/certificates. It is extremely appreciated; thank you Mrs Dolman.
Please don’t stop reading, find a good book, a comfy place to sit and become immersed in adventure.

Aquatic Educational Program
This week Foundation to Year 4 classes have been at the State Aquatic Centre, Marion, for our aquatics lessons. There was lots of excitement and joy in getting to be in the water. Lots of thongs, goggles, towels in all colours were seen and squeals of laughter were heard as the students travelled by bus and then found their instructors and learnt some different things. From blowing bubbles underwater, floating on backs, practising a stroke or two of freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke to duck diving for sticks. The sessions have had a focus on being safe in the water and what to do in an emergency. What fun!
