Vocational Major

2024 has been the first year that Viewbank College has offered the full range of Vocational Major subjects. The VM is designed to suit students who prefer to learn in a more ‘hands on’ way and engage with school by having theoretical concepts related to everyday concepts. In the first week of term, VM students sought a Work Placement in industries that they identified as being suitable for their experience and skill levels. Many of our students found rewarding placements where they learned more about the requirements to succeed in that industry. Below, you’ll see Ben who spent a week working in a light manufacturing factory. Dom worked at a mechanic fixing cars. Nick developed his teaching skills by showing younger students how to play tennis. Jet worked at Sky Bus which is a transport business located near the airport. As teachers, we were proud to hear stories about these students taking their first steps into the workforce and getting recommendations, references and gaining a positive reputation amongst employers.
