A Viral Enigma

The Viral Enigma excursion

On the 17th of October, the Year 9 Accelerated class was fortunate enough to attend the program “A Viral Enigma” run by Quantum Victoria.

Year 9 students worked in teams to apply their acquired knowledge on viruses, mutations and transmission when presented with a Global Pandemic.

The day ran over three sessions: a simulation using a zombie apocalypse program to model how real-world diseases spread and how they can be stopped.

The second session was a code breaking round where students used their understanding of DNA and protein synthesis to work out a secret message.

In the final session they experienced simulations, algorithmic thinking, and mathematics without numbers, words, or calculations during the immersive game, The Virus

Every student made the most of the opportunities to extend themselves and make the most of learning in a different environment.
