TERM 3 ART AWARDS

GRADE 5

During Term 3, the Grade 5 students explored the art of photography as they studied the photo-collage style of David Hockey. David termed this work as 'joiners' Students have learnt to explain the different between the two types which he called ‘grid style’ and ‘freestyle.’ Numerous photos were taken of household items, self-portraits and nature to create several collages. Students then chose their favourite style and object of choice to complete their assessment task. Congratulations to Shay for the creative way she demonstrated movement and perspective in her David Hockey inspired freestyle collage. The inclusion of a background provided an additional element of artist style. Special mentions are awarded to Harrison, Lee and Maitilda for their ability to create thought provoking collages.

GRADE 6

Grade 6 students were introduced to the work of First Nation’s Artist Margaret Present and her printmaking skills. Through exploration and exposure to lino cuts they created their own Styrofoam relief prints. Then, using a variety of techniques, students also created some interesting A4 backgrounds to use for their relief printing paper. After they had critiqued and mastered several prints, students selected their favourite piece to present for their final assessment task. Congratulations to Hugo for the time and patience he demonstrated while creating his unique relief pattern. Hugo’s choice of relief print was well balanced by his choice of background. A special mention is also awarded to Anika for her creative use of paper to present a balanced background that enhances both positive and negative spaces and the colour choices made by Jensen and Jayde to bring their relief prints to life.
