“Be the Reason for Hope” is our school theme for 2025 which is inspirational for our students in these changing times. We have just purchased Pope Francis’ autobiography “Hope” which lets us into many important aspects of the Holy Father’s life. It starts with a description of the last moments of the “Titanic” carrying immigrants to America in 1912 . This is fatefully why the Pope is here today as his Grandparents were meant to be on the “Titanic” but could not raise the money to go on the voyage and had to postpone their journey from Italy to South America. Pope Francis states ‘You can’t imagine how many times I have found myself thinking Divine Providence.’
The Pope recalls his amazing life including his childhood in Argentina where family and community were central to his outlook on the world. The back cover of “Hope” describes this memoir as ‘a touching moral and spiritual testament for readers around the world’ and looks at the ‘most important questions of our times: including war and peace, migration and the challenges that humanity will face in the future.’
