Meet the Captains

Vichit Kan Vong

College Captain -  Clyde North Campus

What do you see as your role as a student leader?

As a student leader, it is not only my role to lead, but to inspire. Without the cohesive and tight-knit community we have here at St. Peter’s College, I could not ask for anything more. In my student leadership roles ever since Year 7, I have always strived to put out the best version of myself to serve others and uphold the virtues we uphold here at St Peter’s.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St Peter's College?

To be honest, it is very hard to think of any positives as are so many amazing things about being a student of St Peter's College; however, what stands out the most is the variety of opportunities St Peter's offers to equip us as the future of society - a great one is our new Theatre and St Martha building, allowing College Productions to be done annually instead of every two years has encouraged me to explore and have experiences of a lifetime.

What are your goals as College captain in 2025?

In collaboration with the Cranbourne Campus College Captains, we have devised the 4P's; positivity, progress, pride, and participation.

  • To be positive and engage with the school community and aspire not to do more but to be more.

  • To contribute to progress, taking part in change, whether it be your academics or College Spirit.

  • To have pride, coming to school and being proud to wear the uniform of St Peter's College.

  • And finally, to participate, contributing to the lively community we have here at St Peter's.

These are our four pillars that are interconnected and what the Student Executive aims to base our initiatives and changes from; it is our mission to make St Peter's College a community like no other.

Our College theme in 2025 is "Be the reason for hope" 1 Peter 3:15 - How will you live this statement through your leadership role?

Selena and I mentioned in our welcome speech at the start of term that one of our goals were to "be the reason for hope" - to be the reason our students want to come to school every day, be the reason for the participation; in academics and College Spirit, be the reason for promoting positivity in the community, and be the reason for students to take pride in attending St Peter's College.

Realistically, this is a big ask for our community in such a short amount of time, this is why we want to be the reason for hope for our future leaders - so that they can continue the legacy that we have built upon.

What do you see as your role as a student leader?

I believe my role as a student leader is as simple as being a voice for the students here at St. Peter's.

It's to not only support my peers but inspire ideas of enthusiasm and motivation in them, in all aspects of school life, whether it be studies or feeling comfortable enough to participate in school activities.

The role of a student leader inherently means being a servant leader, it's a position given to us so that we can make active decisions for our community that benefit our community.

What is one of the positives about being a student at St Peter's College?

If I were to choose only one positive about being a St Peter's College student, I would say the number of opportunities, we have to grow in the areas we choose. Whether academically or with extracurriculars like sport we receive an overwhelming amount of support in any and every aspect of school, that we are encouraged to take advantage of.

What are your goals as College captain in 2025?

We as College captains collaborated with the captains of the other campus to develop 4 pillars that we've based our goals off moving forward, pride, progress, positivity and participation.

  • To create a positive environment within in the school community, focusing on positive engagement.

  • To be active members of the change we want to see in our school and to always remain present.

  • To prioritise pride in our school, and in ourselves and to also foster that same sense of pride in our peers.

  • And to participate in some way in any events within our college community helping develop the bond we have with each other.

Our College theme in 2025 is "Be the reason for hope" 1 Peter 3:15 - How will you live this statement through your leadership role?

Being the reason for hope is something that Vichit and I mentioned very early on in the school year, we decided that to us, being the reason for hope means being part of the reason the students here at St Peter's want to come to school, the reason they feel they can actively participate in every area of their school lives.

To us it means making it clear that we see and hear our peers, that we believe in them and that we will do everything in our power to support them, that they can trust us to create a safe, comfortable and fun environment for them.

I acknowledge that this an ambitious set of goals for us as captains, especially since we have a limited amount of time to do so but being the reason for hope also means setting up a pathway for the student leaders after us, so that they can look at our roles and feel in control rather than overwhelmed when stepping up and be sure they can continue to build on our legacy.
