Secondary 7/8

7/8A
Secondary 7/8A has done an amazing job settling into Year 7 and 8.
In Literacy, we have read the books “How Do I Know If I’m Upside Down?” and “Listening To My Body.” These books were used to explore our interoception and practice identifying body cues with experiments using our hands, feet, skin, cheeks, mouth, eyes, voice and ears. In these books we have been identifying nouns, verbs and adjectives and practiced writing sentences about these experiments and chosen pictures.
In Maths, we have been learning about time. We have been focusing on days and months, identifying what comes before and after. We have also been identifying the duration of events (e.g. second, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months and years), and have sequenced events in our day.
Not only have we been working hard in our learning, but we have been trying new things, practising our social skills and have been getting active in Challenge where students have enjoyed activities such as gardening, AFL, Action Indoor Sports, gym, walking, cooking and board games. We have also enjoyed attending Secondary Sports Day and Williamstown Beach.
7/8A should be very proud of what they achieved in Term 1!
7/8B
Term 1 has been a wonderful start to the year, with students settling in well and building strong connections with their peers and teachers. They have embraced new routines, engaged in a variety of learning experiences, and supported one another in both the classroom and beyond. It has been great to see their confidence grow as they form friendships, develop important skills, and take on new challenges with enthusiasm.
This term, students participated in several excursions and experiences, including walking to the Watsonia shops, Secondary Sports Day, Swimming, and visiting Williamstown Beach. The students all had a wonderful time making memories and visiting the local community.
In Literacy, we have been focusing on interoception, helping students develop a deeper awareness of their body’s internal signals and clues. We explored this concept through engaging books such as How Do I Know If I’m Upside Down?, Listening to My Body, and My Body Sends a Signal, which provided valuable insights into how we recognise and respond to physical sensations and emotions.
In Maths, we focused on understanding time, particularly the months of the year and how to use a calendar to track the duration between events.
Our class has loved participating in Community Challenge every Friday, exploring a variety of activities such as triathlon training, cooking, gardening, action sports, AFL clinic, and gym sessions. We've developed valuable skills that we can use in everyday life.
Term 1 has been a fantastic success—bring on Term 2!
7/8C
Welcome to Secondary 78C. By now our staff and students have got to know each other quite well – our favourite food, favourite music, favourite colours and other interests and foibles. As a general rule, our class loves Taylor Swift and drawing!
This term has seen a strong focus on identifying the signals our bodies give us, that is ‘interoception’, to help students maintain balance and calm, and consequently be open to learning.
We have done experiments, exploring sensations of our skin, mouth, eyes and other body parts. We have looked at ways to energise ourselves when we are feeling lethargic and to calm ourselves when feeling excited.
In Maths, we have explored different aspects of time, such as timetables, calendars and the sequencing of events.
The term has been full of fun and learning and we are looking forward to more of the same in Term 2.
Happy holidays to everyone.
7/8D
Secondary 7/8D have done a terrific job of settling into Year 7 and 8.
In Literacy, we have read the books “How Do I Know If I’m Upside Down?” and “Listening To My Body.” These books were used to help the students identify body cues with corresponding experiments focusing on our hands, feet, skin, cheeks, mouth, eyes, voice and ears. The books were also used to help define nouns, verbs and adjectives. Students practised writing sentences about these experiments based upon their chosen photographs.
In Maths, we have been learning about time. We have been focusing on the days of the week and months of the year. We also defined the words before, after, later, first and last.
Students have participated in Social Skills sessions and have been active every Friday in various Community Challenge events chosen by themselves. These activities included gardening, AFL, Action Indoor Sports, gym, walking, cooking and board games.
We have thoroughly enjoyed attending excursions to the Watsonia shops and Williamstown Beach, as well as the ever popular Secondary Sports Day.
As you can tell, that’s one busy term! 7/8D should be proud of everything they have achieved in this time.
7/8E
Term 1 was filled with excitement and learning for Secondary 7/8E. Not only did we have many meaningful learning experiences in the classroom but we also enjoyed excursions such as Secondary Sports Day and Williamstown Beach.
In Literacy, we focused on interoception, where we learned about body clues and signals. We read books such as “How Do I Know If I’m Upside Down?” and “Listening To My Body.” Students participated in interoception experiments to support their understanding of noticing sensations.
In Maths, we learned about time, focusing on sequencing events such as what we do in the morning, afternoon and evening. We also learned about calendars, months and seasons. Students created their own seasons wheel showcasing their artwork of each season.
Students enjoyed the challenge program where they had the opportunity to participate in activities such as gardening, AFL, Action Indoor Sports, gym, walking, cooking and board games. It was wonderful to see the students back at school after their activity beaming as they told the class all about their adventures.
Overall it has been a fantastic term, and we cannot wait for Term 2!
7/8F
Secondary 7/8F for Fun - we’ve certainly had a lot of fun this term! Some highlights include our walking excursion to the Watsonia Shops, Community Challenge, Senior Sports Day and our excursion to Williamstown Beach.
In Literacy, we have focused on interoception, where we learned about body clues and signals. We read interesting books called “How Do I Know If I’m Upside Down?”, “Listening To My Body” and “My Body Sends a Signal”. Students really enjoyed taking part in experiments that focused on eliciting different sensations, such as popping candy on their tongue, cotton balls in their ears and ice cubes on their feet.
In Maths, we concentrated on time, specifically months of the year and how to use a calendar to track the duration between events.
Our class has really enjoyed attending Community Challenge every Friday, trying out a range of activities including triathlon training, cooking, gardening, action sports and going to the gym. We’ve practiced so many skills that we can apply every day.
Term 1 has been so successful, bring on Term 2!
7/8G
Secondary 7/8G have had an engaging, fun and educational Term 1. We began by getting to know each other through team-building games and activities; learning how to get along, support and cooperate with our classmates. We completed a jigsaw puzzle where we all represented different parts, but our favourite activity was building the tallest tower using spaghetti and marshmallows. Both teams were successful.
We have started each week by doing interoception experiments to understand our bodies. Our favourite experiments have been; holding an ice block, tasting different foods, looking with our eyes, putting our hands in cold and warm water, blowing bubbles and rolling on the exercise ball. We didn’t like the slimy, smelly hand cream.
Our excursion to the Watsonia shops was fantastic because we got to spend our money at either the Bakery or Op Shop. We liked going swimming every day for a whole week, but some of us preferred going once a week for a term. We had a pizza and cake party to celebrate Avi’s birthday.
Sounds Writes is fun, and students are all learning and working well in their groups. Phonic games with Thibaut and independent reading on Epic compliment the sessions. Maths as been learning about Time and Mathletics reinforces our learning.
We will finish Term 1 with a special fish and chip lunch to celebrate lots of learning and the January birthdays (Charlotte, Cassidy and Karen) and way too much fun in 7/8G, let’s hope it continues into Term 2.
7/8H
Secondary 7/8H have had a wonderful time to start the year getting to know each other.
We have completed lots of activities sharing our interests with each other and connecting over the common interests we have.
The highlight of the term was heading down to the Watsonia shops where the class did a great job of following the Concord expectations out in the community.
