Middle School Report

The Middle School students at Edgars Creek Secondary College have made an outstanding start to the year, demonstrating enthusiasm, respect, and a strong commitment to learning. We have been thoroughly impressed by their positive attitude and the way they are embracing our structured approach to lessons. Students are making excellent use of the First and Last 5 Minutes of each class - preparing themselves to engage in learning at the beginning of the lesson and taking the time to reflect on their progress at the end. This practice is already proving to be a valuable tool in fostering productive and meaningful learning experiences.

It was fantastic to meet so many of our Year 7 families at our Meet and Greet Evening. This event provided families with the opportunity to explore our incredible learning spaces, meet their child’s teachers, and gain insight into the exciting and engaging activities their children experience every day. We are thrilled with the way our Year 7 students have settled into Middle School, showing curiosity, determination, and a great sense of community.

Our Year 8 students have been stepping up, with many expressing interest in becoming Home Group Leaders. We are excited to see students take on these leadership opportunities and contribute positively to the school environment. In addition, our new Year 8 Community Space has been a fantastic addition to the Middle School, providing a designated area for Year 8 students to study, socialise, and collaborate. The Year 8 Leadership Team has been pleased with how students are respecting this space, using it responsibly during break times to study and connect with peers.

The Year 9 students have had a dynamic start to the year with their first City Experience, visiting The Big Issue in Melbourne’s CBD. This excursion provided valuable insights into social enterprise and the power of community-driven initiatives. Additionally, students participated in an Introduction to Entrepreneurialism program at Whittlesea Tech School, where they began designing innovative products. Later this year, 25 students will be selected to return to Whittlesea Tech School to develop and create the products they designed. Selection will be based on the quality of their work and their enthusiasm for entrepreneurship.

Year 9 students who are considering beginning their VCE studies in Year 10 will soon begin preparing their applications, which are due in Term 2. We encourage students to start thinking about their future pathways and to take this opportunity seriously. More information will be provided over the next few weeks.

Supporting Student Growth – Punctuality and Organisation

The Middle School Leadership Team has introduced a new late-to-class process to support students in improving their punctuality, respect for time, and organisational skills. Families have been informed about this process via Compass, and those with students who are consistently late will receive weekly emails notifying them if their child has been assigned Accountability Time. We appreciate our families’ support in reinforcing the importance of being on time and prepared for learning.

Uniform Expectations – A Reminder to All Students

A reminder to all Middle School students and families about our uniform expectations.

  • Sports uniforms must be worn on days when students have Physical Education (PE).
  • Whichever uniform is worn (sport or summer), it must be complete and correct.
  • Hooded jumpers are not part of our uniform and must not be worn to school.

We take great pride in our school and expect all students to wear their uniform correctly as a reflection of our shared values and school spirit.

Looking Ahead

As we continue through the term, we are excited to see our Middle School students continue to grow, take on new challenges, and make the most of every opportunity. Their hard work, respect for one another, and commitment to their learning make our school community a vibrant and inspiring place.

Thank you to our students, families, and staff for making the start of the year such a success. We look forward to celebrating many more achievements in the months ahead!
