Spotlight on NAPLAN

Dean of Middle Years – Transition and Outcomes (Acting) - Mrs Amanda Bopf

Mount Alvernia students in Years 7 and 9 recently completed an Omnibus session in preparation for NAPLAN 2025. This test gave students a small taste of Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy in a 45-minute practice test. It enabled students to become more familiar with the online tools, and the types of questions and responses they will experience during NAPLAN next month.

Students who would like to further prepare themselves are able to access helpful resources in the ACADEMICS tile on MyMtA.

To assist parents, the following is a small snapshot from the ACARA website which summarises the NAPLAN test and offers some understanding of why students participate:

  • NAPLAN results allow parents/carers and educators to see how students are progressing in literacy and numeracy over time – individually, as part of their school community, and against national standards.
  • The results can assist teachers by providing additional information to support their professional judgement about students’ levels of literacy and numeracy attainment and progress.
  • NAPLAN tests are just one aspect of each school’s assessment and reporting process and do not replace the extensive, ongoing assessments made by teachers about each student’s performance. Each teacher will have the best insight into their students’ educational progress.
  • Parents/carers can use NAPLAN reports, along with other school assessment reports, to discuss their child’s strengths and areas for improvement with their teacher.

The ACARA website has comprehensive resources to inform and assist parents and carers in supporting students. ➡️ NAP - For parents and carers
