Attendance
Attendance at St. Kilian’s
Our goal at St. Kilian’s is to have term average attendance of over 95%! In Week 2 our attendance was 94.81%.
At St. Kilian’s, we know that regular attendance is key to student success. In the first two weeks of term, we saw a strong start with an overall attendance rate of 97.18% in Week 1, but this dipped slightly to 94.81% in Week 2.
While many students are attending every day, we noticed a drop in 100% attendance, with 45 fewer students making it every day in Week 2. However, it’s great to see more students staying within the 90-98% range, showing that most absences are still minimal.
To keep attendance strong, we encourage:
✅ Consistent morning routines – being on time and ready to learn
✅ Healthy habits – a good night’s sleep and a balanced diet support focus
✅ Open communication – if your child is struggling with attendance, let us know how we can help
3 Simple Tips to Help Your Child Arrive at School on Time
1️⃣ Set Up a Consistent Morning Routine
- Create a morning checklist with your child (e.g., get dressed, eat breakfast, pack bag).
- Keep wake-up times and morning steps the same each day to build a habit.
2️⃣ Prepare the Night Before
- Lay out clothes, school bag, and lunch the night before.
- Check for homework, notes, or anything extra needed for the next day.
- A smooth morning starts with good preparation!
3️⃣ Make Mornings Positive & Calm
- Set an alarm with a fun song to wake up in a good mood.
- Allow enough time for breakfast and getting ready without rushing.
- Give gentle countdown reminders (e.g., “10 minutes until we leave!”).
Being on time helps children start the day feeling settled and ready to learn! If you’re facing challenges with morning routines, we’re happy to help—just reach out. 😊
Let’s keep building positive attendance habits together! 🎉 If you have any questions or need support, feel free to speak to your classroom teacher, Mrs. Antonowicz, Mrs. McSweeney or Mr. Podosky.
If you know that your child won’t be attending school, please contact the office and let them know that your child will be away!
PBIS
Each week we have a routine or a blitz that we are focusing on.
This week’s is transitioning between classrooms.
Smooth Moves: Transitioning Between Classrooms Made Easy!
Moving from one learning space to another is a big part of the school day. When students know what’s expected, they can transition calmly, quickly, and respectfully without disrupting others. This routine helps children feel confident about what to do, making school life smoother for everyone. By practicing and reinforcing these habits at home, parents can support their child’s ability to follow directions, stay focused, and move responsibly in different environments. Here's how the routine works and some simple ways to help at home!
How It Works
🌟 When to Use: Anytime students are moving to another location in or near the school.
🎯 Why It Matters:
- Helps students transition smoothly without losing learning time.
- Keeps the school environment calm and respectful.
- Teaches responsibility and self-discipline.
Step-by-Step Routine
1️⃣ Teacher Explains the Plan
- “We are moving to (destination).”
- “We will line up (location for lining up).”
- “On my signal, we will walk together.”
2️⃣ Students Follow These Expectations:
✅ Stay in line while walking.
✅ Keep up with the person in front.
✅ Walk quietly.
3️⃣ Teacher Monitors Movement
- Stops at key points to check the group is together.
4️⃣ On Arrival
- Students wait quietly in line for further directions.
How Parents Can Reinforce This at Home
🏡 Practice Listening & Following Directions: Play simple games like "Simon Says" or give step-by-step instructions for small tasks (e.g., “Walk to your room, get your book, and come back quietly”).
👟 Encourage Walking Calmly: Remind children to walk without running or pushing when moving from one place to another at home, like going to the dinner table or getting ready for bed.
🌟 Praise Positive Transitions: Acknowledge when they move quietly and calmly at home (e.g., “I love how you walked to the kitchen so smoothly!”).
📚 Talk About School Transitions: Ask, “How did your class move today? Were you able to stay quiet and in line?” This keeps them mindful of their routine.
By reinforcing these habits at home, parents help children build self-control, responsibility, and respect—skills that make every transition smoother! 🚀
