Grade 1 and 2

A Fantastic Start!
What an incredible start to the year we’ve had! Our Grade One and Two students have settled in beautifully, and we are so proud of the enthusiasm they bring to learning each day. A huge thank you to all the families who attended the ‘Getting to Know You’ interviews. It’s been wonderful to connect with you and learn more about each child to ensure a positive and successful year ahead.
New Connections
Our Big Idea in CBL this term is Connections, and we’ve been exploring what it means to build, strengthen, and maintain friendships. The students have impressed us with their insightful strategies for managing new social situations, showcased beautifully in role-plays and guided discussions. We have also loved the opportunities to come together as a Grade One community and a Grade Two community, strengthening connections within our cohorts. It has been heartwarming to witness students forming new friendships and supporting one another. Watching their confidence grow as they navigate social interactions with kindness and respect has been truly inspiring.
Maths
In Maths, we have been diving into place value. Students are continuing to develop their understanding of numbers, by counting, ordering, and partitioning numbers in different ways. Hands-on activities and games have made our learning exciting and engaging, and we can’t wait to see their number sense continue to develop!
Literacy
Our focus in Literacy has been on Narrative writing. Students are learning about the key elements of a story, using more complex language, orientation, complication, and resolution. We are using nouns and adjectives to bring our writing to life, all while being inspired by a range of rich mentor texts. It’s been wonderful to see their creativity shine!
Thank you for supporting your child’s reading journey at home with their Take Home Books, your encouragement makes a world of difference. Take Home Books will be swapped on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and students can also borrow books of interest from the Library as another option for home reading. Home reading is a valuable opportunity for children to build fluency with familiar texts, practice reading with expression, and develop a lifelong love of books. We appreciate your support in making reading an enjoyable and meaningful part of their daily routine!
Looking Ahead!
We are so excited for the rest of the term as we continue to grow, learn, and have fun together. Thank you for your ongoing support - we can’t wait to see what our amazing students achieve next!
