School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)
School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) is a framework that brings together school communities to develop a positive, safe and supportive learning environment. It assists our school to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for all students.
SWPBS operates on the premise that as well as being learners of Literacy and Numeracy, children are also learners of behaviour. Under this model it is the role of the school staff, with the support of the school community, to set behaviour expectations and explicitly teach our students appropriate behaviours.
Wonga Park Primary School’s SWPBS journey commenced in 2024 with the support of an SWPBS coach from the Department of Education. A Matrix of Behaviour Expectations was developed to support our student’s understanding of agreed and acceptable behaviours. This matrix aligns with our school values of Everyone has the right to feel safe. Everyone has the right to learn. Everyone has the right to feel valued.
Our teaching staff refer to the Matrix of Expectations to acknowledge our students genuine and positive behaviours through the following commentary Be Kind, Be Safe, Be A Learner. Explicit instruction is delivered through our Wellbeing programs as teachers continue to develop and refine lessons to teach our SWPBS expected behaviours.
In 2025, the SWPBS team at Wonga Park Primary School look forward to further collaboration with the staff, students and school community to refine our SWPBS delivery and embed a supportive, safe and positive school culture for all.
