Principal's Message

We had excited children and even more excited families as our Prep children began school earlier this week. It was a really hot day, but our newest students were all little troopers and came into school with such positive energy and enthusiasm. The children settled really quickly and are already adapting to school routines and expectations.
The rest of the school have completed their 8-day settling in program and have begun their more formal schoolwork. The Settling In Program is crucial to establish cohesive classes. Once the children are explicitly taught the expectations of their teacher, their peers and the school, they feel more comfortable as school becomes more predictable and feels safer.
Working Bee – Monday 10 February 3:30pm – 5:30pm
We are holding a special working bee on Monday afternoon. Now that our vegetable garden fence has been installed we need some help to fill up the vegetable gardens with layers of timber and organic materials and soil. At the beginning of last year, we had children complete this job with the old vegetable gardens but they find the lifting of the soil into the raised garden beds too difficult. We have shovels and wheelbarrows but always appreciate when families bring along extras.
School Council AGM and nominations for positions
School Council helps to establish the broad direction and vision of the school within the school's community. School Council representatives play a crucial role in the effective running of the school. If you would like to join School Council, please consider nominating for a position. We currently have 2 parent member positions available. It is not an onerous time commitment (8 meetings a year on the 3rd Wednesday of every month), you will get to meet fellow community members and become involved in the decision making of the school.
Our School Council AGM will be held at school on Wednesday 19 March at 7pm. If you are interested in nominating for School Council, please see Jenny in the Office for a nomination form. If we have more parents nominate than positions, then we will require an election. Nominations for School Council close on Monday 24 February at 4pm.
Boral – community partner
We have been extremely fortunate to work with Boral Quarries in Montrose with resources for our new vegetable garden and dry creek bed project. Bailey from Boral Montrose has generously donated his time to deliver multiple truck loads of rocks and crushed gravel. This donation has been crucial in developing the base for our vegetable gardens and contributing to the retaining walls across the area. Thank you Boral Montrose for supporting your local community.
Parent’s parking in and near the Staff Car Park
Sorry to nag about car parking again! It is really important that we don’t have any families walking through the staff car park before or after school. We had a near miss this week as our TheirCare educators were leaving and children were running through the car park. If you park or drop off in the top gravel car park, please walk across the basketball court and down the stairs rather than cutting through the staff car park. Child safety is the most important thing and we’d hate to have someone seriously injured as they cut through the car park.
