COME TO ‘MAGNIFICO MELBOURNE’!
Tuesday June 3rd, Crossway Centre, Burwood East
We are very excited to announce the title of our production for 2025 is ‘Magnifico Melbourne’. It tells the story of a child who lives with their mother in Italy and goes on a trip to visit relatives who live in, you guessed it, Melbourne! The family visits many iconic Melbourne landmarks to make their cousin feel welcome. They face some challenges along the way, but in the end agree that Melbourne is indeed ‘magnifico’.
Each class will perform songs, dances and dramatic scenes set in some of Melbourne’s most famous spots. This is such an exciting undertaking for our students - they are raring to go and will start rehearsals as early as next week. This is to ensure the children are supremely confident when they hit the stage in June. Keep an eye out in the newsletter for more information in the weeks to come.
GRADE 5/6 AUDITIONS FOR MAIN ROLES
In order to tell the story of ‘Magnifico Melbourne’, we need lead actors to take on some main roles in the show. They will help to weave the story and tie together the big scenes for each class. As is now tradition at St Roch’s, students in the senior level are invited to try out for these parts. These auditions will be held at school during class time on the following dates:
Thursday March 6 9-10 A.M. and 2.30 to 3.30 P.M.
Friday March 7 2.30 -3.3- P.M. (if needed)
I will be going through scripts and audition pieces with the students in Performing Arts classes in the lead up to this time. The expectation is that they learn the lines in the audition piece and work on their voice projection and expression and character at home. It is important for the students to understand that not all of them will receive a main role but will have ample opportunity to shine in their ‘class act’ as was the case in ‘The Sound of Musicals’, our 2023 show. Of course to feel disappointed is natural, but this is also a great opportunity to discuss resilience with your child, as well as encouraging them to be happy for those who are successful in gaining a role.
PARENT HELPERS
We will also be calling on the community to assist with sourcing and making of costumes and props. Stay tuned for further information about this.
We look forward to a wonderful two terms in Performing Arts as we prepare for our Production!
