Prep/Year 6 Buddies
There were smiles all round when our Prep and Year 6 students met for their first 'Buddy Time' experience on the first Friday of the school year. They will meet each Friday afternoon to enjoy an activity together, based on the Alannah & Madeline Foundation Buddy Program to build connection, trust and a sense of belonging. All very important for the success of each students wellbeing.
Our student’s well being is central to all that we do here at St Roch’s.
Our value this Term is Belonging and time is spent each day building a classroom culture where all students belong and feel valued.
Research shows us that students who feel safe, included and learn in an environment that emphasises respectful relationships will have positive experiences in the school environment and become life-long learners.
It is our aim to establish positive relationships between students, educators, parents, carers and community members so that our students flourish and their wellbeing is enhanced everyday.
Classroom teachers have spent a great deal of time over the holidays and in the first few weeks of the year preparing the classrooms to be positive learning environments for all. Over the past three weeks they have created opportunities for the students to get to know each other, share their hobbies, their favourite activities, their strengths and interests.
Over this term students and teachers will work together to establish ways of working to promote respectful exchanges and build positive relationships within the classroom. In Year 1 today students were exchanging amongst other things, their favourite ice cream flavours and weekend activity. The Preps were spending time completing activities that they enjoyed and finding out who shares the same interests.
We are super excited about the year ahead with many positive learning opportunities planned in the best learning environments possible.
