Mazenod Old Collegians Cricket Club vs Mazenod Old Collegians Football Club

Sunday was a great day at the college, with the cricket club, led by Tom Riley, taking on the football club in a highly anticipated showdown. After winning the toss, Tom made the bold decision to send the footballers into the field. The football club got off to a strong start, with Julian Smith and Adam Gilmore claiming two crucial wickets. However, the cricketers soon found their footing, thanks to the steady batting of Sauce Wales, Max O'Driscoll, and Luke Byrnes, who consistently found the boundary.

Just as the cricketers were gaining momentum, Vincent Zagari turned the game on its head with a devastating three-wicket spell. This left the footballers with a challenging target of 142 to chase. The footballers began their innings confidently, with Jake Martin and Jackson D'Angelo laying a solid foundation. But the cricketers fought back, with Andrew Trifilo, Max, and Tom Riley claiming key wickets to put their team firmly in the driver's seat with 10 overs remaining.

As the match hung in the balance, Jarryd Raffa and Tom McKenna formed a potent partnership, with Raffa playing a classy innings. But just when all seemed lost for the footballers, Vincent Zagari once again stole the show with a brilliant knock, willing his team back into contention.

In a heart-stopping finale, the match came down to the very last ball, with Tom McKenna needing four runs to win. Tom Riley bowled a tense delivery, but it slipped through the wicketkeeper's gloves and raced away to the boundary for four byes, securing a thrilling victory for the football club. The crowd was on the edge of their seats as the footballers lifted the trophy in triumph. It was an incredible day of cricket, and we can't wait to see what next year's match has in store!
