Music at MSC

Music News

On behalf of all instrumental music staff, it’s great to see our young musicians back at school. Lessons are well and truly up and running. Our new students who have enrolled in the program are settling in. Attendance has been excellent. The instrumental program is expanding. We currently have just over 95 students. This number will grow as quite a few year 7 students are currently trialling instruments. Early signs are telling me it’s going to be a great year.

Timetables/Lessons

A reminder to all students to check their lesson time on Compass. If events occur throughout the week such as assemblies, public holidays or incursions, staff will do their best to schedule your lesson another time during the week. Lessons are held in A1 and in the music studios located in the Art Building. Instruments can be dropped off in the morning before session one outside studio 2 which is at the end of the hallway. Students must collect their instrument at the end of the day. Don’t forget to practice before your next lesson.

Rehearsals

It was great to see all students back playing together. Last year’s juniors have joined the intermediate band. Our first rehearsal was very productive. A reminder to all students, parents and carers Intermediate band rehearsals take place every Tuesday after school in A1 from 3.15-4.30pm.

Classroom Music

Classroom music has been re-located to G4. This room was renovated at the end of term 4. (See photo) Our keyboard lab is set up. Students are having a great time learning chords to pop songs during our practical sessions. With 25 keyboards and 25 guitars on offer, our students will experience the joys of learning a musical instrument. They will also get a taste of playing in a large ensemble.

Music Tuition Fees/Instrument Hire

A reminder to all parents/carers the tuition fee of $62.50 needs to be paid by the end of week 5. If students are hiring an instrument from the College a further fee of $25 per term also needs to be paid by the end of week 5. All families should have received a statement via email and in the post. Please note you can contact the College on 5147 1790 to arrange a payment plan if this is a suitable option. If you have any questions, please call me on 0409 142 240.

Instrument vacancies

It isn’t too late to sign up and learn a musical instrument. We have vacancies for the following instruments: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and violin. Students have an opportunity to have a few lessons to trial an instrument. Come over and see me in the Art Building so we can arrange a lesson time.

On behalf of all instrumental music staff Donna Stemberger and Robyn Keane, have a great term.
