SKIPPS Orchestra Receives South Melbourne Community Chest Grant

We are delighted to share that the SKIPPS Orchestra has been awarded a $1,920 grant for the 2026 school year from the South Melbourne Community Chest (SMCC), supported by their wonderful Op Shop.

Last week, our orchestra teacher Michael Roper proudly accepted the grant on behalf of our school community.

Each year, SMCC distributes proceeds from its Op Shop to a wide range of community organizations within the City of Port Phillip. Their support reaches environmental groups, after school programs, gymnastic clubs, meal programs, and other amazing initiatives that strengthen and uplift our whole community.

This year alone, SMCC has contributed $72,500 in grants, and we are honoured to be among the recipients.

What makes the SKIPPS Orchestra truly special is its inclusive spirit. Everyone is welcome, and participation is supported through a voluntary levy, meaning families contribute only if and as they can. The orchestra is also a parent run organization, and this strong and dedicated involvement has been key to success helping the group run continuously for more than 10 years and remain accessible to all students who wish to be involved.

The generous SMCC grant will help make sure that families who may find the levy challenging can still participate, so that no child misses out on the fun and learning that comes from being part of the orchestra.

A big thank you to the South Melbourne Community Chest for their support of our school and the wider Port Phillip community!
