Numeracy

At BSPS, we strive to provide rich learning experiences that allow our students to build on their strengths of curiosity, resilience, and teamwork.
Student Insights
Over the past few weeks, I've been asking students about their feelings toward mathematics, specifically: what they like, what they find challenging, and how they overcome those challenges.Their responses were:
• "It is fun like when we get to solve the problems and finding the answers." - Mary (Year 1/2)
• "I like doing some equations and figuring them out is pretty fun." - Alby (Year 1/2)
• "I like skip counting because it is faster to me! [It is challenging] counting by 1s because I run out of breath." - Celestine (Foundation)
A common strategy for overcoming challenges involved students:
1. Looking around the room (for tools or inspiration).
2. Thinking about what they already know and how it could help them.
3. Acknowledging that "my teacher helps."
