Year 5/6

The past Writing cycle we have been split into Year 6’s and Year 5’s. This is what we’ve been up to!
Year 6 speeches
In our last Writing cycle we were working on our graduation speeches. We focused on engaging our audience and public speaking skills. We were put into groups of 2 or 3 and were assigned a year level, specialist, bilingual program or thing we have learnt about ourselves. We worked together to create a captivating speech. We also edited our own speeches and then we showed our teacher. We practiced it and made sure it fit the time frame of 40 seconds which was hard for some people! We are really excited to perform our speeches at Graduation in December!
Year 5 reviews
In Y5 in our last writing cycle we have been writing reviews. In English we watched a documentary called “The Biggest Little Farm”, took notes on the documentary, and then wrote a review about it. The documentary was about the seven-year journey of a couple and their farm. In Italian we have been writing a good and bad review about a compony. Most people have been writing the reviews about restaurants but a few of us have been writing them about toy companies. It has been an interesting skill to learn!
In other exciting news, Wednesday 12th November senior Environment Action Team members participated in the Biodiversity Audit with support of Sarah from CERES. This is our next step in gaining our second star for Biodiversity as part of Resource Smart Schools. Parent and community volunteers Noel and Jenny worked with the students to identify, classify and count indigenous and exotic trees, ground cover, animals, birds and insects. We earned a score of 92 which is excellent and a credit to our Grounds and Gardening team who have helped create the gardens and habitats we (and the animals and bugs) all enjoy at BSPS. We will be using this audit in our next steps to create a Biodiversity Improvement Annual Action Plan and the EAT are hard at work brainstorming how to make our school even more Biodiverse!
