NGV Excursion
Last week all the 3/4’s went on an excursion to the NGV in the city. We got there at about 9:45am and we came by bus. When we arrived, we went to see the aboriginal art with my classmates and then we looked at the paintings. After that we ate our recess, and then we wrote a poem about a famous Australian painting called “the sheep shearers”. We went back to the federation square and ate our lunch for a couple of minutes and played on the playground near Acmi and we were there for a while. It was a fun break after looking at the art. Finally, we had a little walk to the buses and got back to school, talked about our favourite things, packed our bags, and went home.

Last week everyone in grade 3 and 4 went to the authentic NGV and we had an exhilarating time, because everything was exciting, fun and all the staff were super nice! At the start of the excursion, we went to a painting that had multiple frames resembling points in time; when you really focus on the picture you can see it as one amazing story. My favourite thing was that we went to a fascinating exhibition and we enjoyed the ancient artifacts, unique structures and a beautiful view. Then after we snacked for a while we went to the dazzling botanical gardens and played there by the fountain that had a lion’s head on top. We all had the best experience we could have as a school so I hope you would want to visit the NGV.

Last week on Thursday grades 3\4 went to the NGV.
First, we saw three paintings and got a chance to write about them, and the paintings and art we saw there was really interesting to learn about.
Then we ate our recess outside, and after we walked to the bus to get back to school but during the walk we stumbled into some aboriginal people, and they played some music with instruments. Then they invited us to dance around a spiritual fire!
We got a chance to feel kangaroo skin and possum skin. It was really interesting learning about the aboriginals and their culture.
Then, we had a short walk in the botanical gardens. We also needed a break to eat lunch, so we stopped and ate lunch at a really pretty remembrance place.
We started heading off since time was rapid!
We were waiting at the water wall for another group, so we decided to touch it.
Soon after another group came and we headed off on the bus to get to school from a spectacular, awesome and extinguishing day!

Last Thursday the 3/4 cohort went to the NGV for a poetry session called ‘Artful English’. Before our 1pm session, my group went to an art exhibit and then had a play in Federation Square.
After that Mr. Beal and Ms. Jaye squeezed us into the fully booked ACMI for a session before the poetry. During the poetry session we began by looking at a cloak made out of possum fur. We were asked to write a sentence about the cloak and so on for the next two artworks. When we got back, we thought about our favourite parts of the day.

We left at nine on the dot. It took us thirty minutes to get to the NGV by bus. When we got there everybody was excited. First, we went to see a little exhibition with lots of things made with everyday objects which were recycled and broken down to make things such as bricks made out of things like plastic and wood. Next, we ate snack and had a little play. Afterwards, one group got to go to Acmi even though no other group went. Lastly, we had a workshop on poetry where students write a poem about artwork and then we went back to school.

Poetry in Grade 3 and 4
Students in Grades 3 and 4 have been exploring poetry in their writing unit, discovering how poets use language in creative and powerful ways. They have been learning about rhyming patterns and experimenting with poetic devices to enhance their writing. The classes have also enjoyed trying out different poem structures, including diamante poems, limericks and haikus. Through practice and play with words, students are building confidence and having fun expressing themselves as poets. Please enjoy some beautiful examples from 34C. Diamante poems by John L and Sara A; Haikus by Satvika V and Yonatan R.

Zoos Victoria Zoo Showcase
Last Friday, I had an amazing experience attending the Zoos Victoria Showcase with our ten selected Year 3/4 students. This event was a rich learning opportunity and a celebration of the incredible work they completed throughout Term 3 and 4. Students have been following the design process by choosing a zoo animal, empathising with its needs, conducting research and live observations, and designing a prototype enrichment activity using Tinkercad. They then imported their designs into Delightex, where they coded their chosen animal to interact with their invention.
At the showcase, students confidently shared and explained their interactive zoo environments to zookeepers, teachers, and students from other schools. Their innovation was truly impressive. They represented our school wonderfully and should be extremely proud of their achievement. Many visitors were curious, amazed, and excited to explore the digital environments and enjoyed playing the students’ interactive games.
It was a fantastic celebration of innovation, design, and learning.

Our Zoo Showcase Day Reflections
Last Friday we were lucky enough to be one of the 10 students in 3/4 to get to go to the zoo for our Digital Technologies designs. There were tons of other schools there with super cool designs. We were the only ones that designed an animal enclosure digitally. Everyone was super impressed with our coding. There was even a tattoo station and super cute bandicoot dress ups. After we had presented our designs, we got to roam the zoo. In my opinion it was the best excursion ever!

On Friday 14th November, we went to the zoo, and it was an amazing experience. It was so fun, we got to see some animals our classes didn’t get to see when we had an excursion last term. The designs consisted of enrichment ideas and ideas to help save animals from extinction. The other schools mostly made their designs by hand but only some did them digitally. There were designs from junior students to high schoolers. We looked at countless designs from different age groups but ours stood out by being 3D printed and being digitally designed on Delightex and Tinkercad. After all, we all had a lot of fun, and the experience was amazing!

The day of the zoo was really fun! In the morning, we went to the main building for a little pep talk. On the way there, we took a tram and a train. When we arrived, the acknowledgement of country was just starting. Once that finished, we got our table station ready, and people started coming round to look at and asked questions. There were lots of school kids, zookeepers and teachers. After that, we all sat down for lunch, then we were able to explore the zoo. In summary the day was amazing!

When we arrived at the zoo showcase, we showed the people roaming around our designs. Many asked us how we did it. Some people said that they loved the idea of Delightex and Tinkercad. After the presentation, we sat down and ate before visiting the zoo animals. In summary, we had great fun the whole day.

Cleo and I were selected to go to the zoo to present our digital technology project as part of the Fighting Extinction STEM design challenge. We presented our project to other kids from other schools and to zookeepers. Kids were very interested because we coded a game to show our design and they were able to play it on the iPad's. After our presentation we went to explore the projects of other schools. We asked questions to the other presenters. After the event, Miss Spencer took us around the zoo. That was a good experience. I had a great day.

Step into Prep
What a lovely morning for our first session of Step into Prep! It’s a big step for these little learners to embark into their primary school journey. While the young ones were mingling with their new cohort in their new learning space, their parents and carers attended an information session in the Senior Learning Centre. Well done to everyone involved, the organisation was seamless. We can’t wait to welcome them again next week!
