Careers

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,

As the academic year comes to an end, I reflect on another very busy and fulfilling year in the careers office. I am incredibly proud of our graduating class of 2025, who are all well on their way with their post-school pathways, whether that be, University, TAFE, apprenticeships, traineeships, employment, or perhaps some travel and rest. Every graduate should take pride in achieving their HSC and completing their long journey through school.

I would also like to take this moment to sincerely thank all our wonderful local employers for their generous support throughout the year with over 180 work experience placements as well as the TAFE work placements for all our students. Your dedication to offering real-world employment opportunities has helped our students grow in confidence, develop their skills and knowledge, and explore the fantastic opportunities available right in our community.

Thank you all for your support throughout 2025!

Wishing all students, families, community partners, and host employers a merry Christmas and a joyful, peaceful holiday season.

Industry Tour

Narrandera Shire Council & Narrandera Fisheries with Grow Our Own

Recently a small group of Year 10 students had the opportunity to attend an industry tour and information sessions with both the Narrandera Shire Council and NSW Fisheries Narrandera. Both tours were organised by Katie Pastro of Grow Our Own, who coordinated with staff at the Narrandera Shire Council HR Team, the new General Manager, the Narrandera Shire Depot staff as well as the team at Narrandera Fisheries and Fee Smith of TAFE NSW.

Both tours and talks were very informative and gave students an overview of the many careers on offer with the shire council and fisheries. All the guest speakers and staff were very generous with their time and gave practical advice to students on what the recruitment process was like and what the shire council is looking for from young job applicants. It was fascinating to hear about the many varied career options we have within our shire and the fantastic career pathways on offer when working within local government.

It was also lovely to catch up with several current and former students who work for Narrandera Shire Council. Mason Pearce who earlier this year left school to commence his apprenticeship with the shire, gave a fantastic talk and gave advice to students on how to make the most of your opportunities, how to really develop your communication skills and what to look for in the application process. We also had Ivy Morgan available to chat to students about her current School Based Traineeship in Community Services working with the Shire Youth Coordinator Nyoka Prior, who both made sure they were available to give further insight into their roles working with the youth in our community and the shire council.

We then travelled out to the Fisheries facilities to tour and chat about the many opportunities they have on offer and the extensive work they do with both the hatchery, release and conservation of native fish species and the importance of looking after our waterways.

We wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation of all the time and organisation Katie Pastro, Fee Smith of TAFE and all the staff from both the Narrandera Shire Council and Fisheries went to in to provide our students such a fantastic opportunity to explore local government careers.
