Interschool Athletics Carnival

This week, GSG competed in the Interschool Athletics Carnival. Our athletes did a remarkable job, finishing the day in second place behind North Albany Senior High School. Given our smaller cohort size, it is wonderful to see us competing for the top positions. Well done to our staff and students for their efforts this week, we are very proud of you all!

Student Reflection

On Tuesday 2 December Great Southern Grammar competed in the A Grade Athletics Carnival against ASHS, NASHS and Denmark Senior High School. The carnival began at 9.30am and wrapped up at around 2.30pm. Throughout the day, students showed strong competitiveness and school pride as they pushed themselves in events such as the 1500m, 800m, 400m, 200m, 100m, the 4x100m relay, high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, and discus. While everyone was cheering each other on and enjoying the day as they slowly ticked off their events, the atmosphere stayed energetic and positive as students gave their best performances on the track and in the field. Overall, the carnival was a successful and enjoyable day, filled with great competition, sportsmanship, and fun for everyone involved.

Merit and Endeavour Awards

This week at Assembly, we presented Endeavour Awards and Merit Awards for elective subjects. It was lovely to see so many parents attending, and I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome whenever you can join us. Our assemblies are a fortnightly celebration of our culture and our students’ achievements are always at the forefront.

Year Ten Hospitality Excursion

This week, the Year Ten Hospitality students have been to Pepper & Salt Restaurant in Denmark to work with Chef Silas Masih in the kitchen and enjoyed a special lunch service. This was a fantastic opportunity for them to experience working inside a renowned kitchen, as well as a reward for recently winning the Western Australian State Award in the National Flavour Forecast Competition! Students collaborated with Chef Silas to workshop their ideas and this excursion was a wonderful celebration of their success. Refer to the Technologies News page for an update and photos.

End of Term Preparations

As we near the end of the term, I ask parents to please consider how all school items will make their way home. For boarding parents, I know this is a much bigger task! Students will be emptying their lockers (or packing up their bedrooms) and I suggest doing this over a few trips during the week rather than trying to carry one large bag home on the bus next Wednesday.

There are a number of celebrations coming up, including our Christmas Service next Monday and our Years Seven to Eleven Awards Assembly next Wednesday. If you are coming onto campus, it is a great opportunity to take a few things home in the car.

GSSSSA Volleyball Carnival

Student Reflection

The Years Nine and Ten Volleyball Carnival was held last Friday 28 November and brought together all the Year Nine students for a full day of teamwork, competition, and physical activity at ALAC. Students were placed into teams, two developing teams and two champion teams. The carnival was Year Nine and Ten, but unfortunately the GSG Year Ten students were not able to go due to exams, putting us at a disadvantage. These teams rotated through a series of round-robin matches against many different schools. The carnival was a fun day, promoting participation and cooperation, while allowing students to apply the volleyball skills that we have been learning in PE lessons.

The schedule ran smoothly, and the teams moved between courts with minimal delays, helping the event stay on time. Throughout the day, I was lucky enough to take photos of all the amazing teams in action. Some of the teams also helped watch the lines and showed good sportsmanship. I was able to watch all the GSG teams play at least once, and it was noticeable the practice and effort that they put in. Our teams improved noticeably over the course of the carnival, even though none of the teams placed. Overall, the carnival was enjoyable, well-organised, and a valuable opportunity for all the students.

End of Year School Device Returns

Gallery Image

For students enrolled in Year Ten and Year Twelve in 2026, we will be completing device returns and issuing upgraded Surface Laptops in the coming weeks. Year Eleven students exchanged devices on 24 November 2025 and Year Nines on 8 December 2025.

The selected device is well-suited to the age and learning needs of students and is consistent with the model rolled out to Year Nine and Year Eleven students in 2025. It offers improved battery life, enhanced processing power and a larger display.

If any issues arise with devices over the end-of-year break, the IT team will be available for support. Please email support@gsg.wa.edu.au or visit the IT staff in the Library.
