Principal's Report

Term 4

As we approach the final weeks of 2025, there is a real sense of excitement across the school. Everyone has worked incredibly hard, and a well-deserved break is just around the corner. Thank you to our whole community for your ongoing support and for partnering with us to give our students the best learning opportunities possible.

Over the past few weeks, it has been fantastic to see our students shine during section events, assemblies, and presentations. Their achievements this year reflect their determination, growth, and commitment to giving their best every day.

Principal’s Awards

Congratulations to all students who earned a Principal’s Award in 2025! On Monday we celebrated with a special lunch for all recipients, joined by the Assistant Principals. It was a great opportunity to recognise each student’s hard work and achievements.

Graduations

This Thursday evening, we will proudly celebrate our Year 12 students as they complete their school journey. It is always a special milestone, and we look forward to hearing about their goals and dreams as they step into the next stage of life.

Next week, we will also be recognising our Year 6 students as they graduate from the Primary section and prepare to begin their Secondary school experience. This transition marks an exciting new chapter, full of new opportunities and learning experiences.

Transition

Tuesday the 9th of December is our Whole-School Transition Day. Students will spend half of the day with their 2026 class in their new classrooms. Please be aware that placements may still change as we continue to finalise enrolments. We also look forward to welcoming our new students and families who will be joining the Concord community next year.

Current students will participate in a second transition session on Wednesday the 10th of December to continue building confidence and familiarity with their new class setting.

2025 Community Concert

We are excited to once again bring our school community together for our end-of-year celebration. This year’s evening Community Concert will be held on Tuesday 16 December from 5.30pm to 7pm.

The night will feature performances from student groups and bands, student-run market stalls, a BBQ, a coffee van, and of course, a visit from Santa. We hope to see many of you there!

Inaugural Special Olympics Unified 3x3 Basketball World Cup

Wishing the Eltham Wildcats Unified Basketball Squad all the best for the inaugural Special Olympics Unified 3x3 Basketball World Cup in Puerto Rico. A special mention to current students Zac and Spencer and past students Bri and Manahil on this amazing opportunity! We can't wait to hear how they go!

Supporting your child under 16 with the new social media age restrictions

From 10 December 2025, the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024 will require social media platforms to:

  • prevent children and young people under 16 from having a social media account
  • deactivate or freeze existing accounts held by people under 16.

Delaying access to social media protects the health and wellbeing of young people and gives them extra time to build real world connections and digital literacy skills.

The responsibility will be on the social media platforms, not parents, carers, children or schools, to implement these new restrictions.

Most popular social media platforms will be age restricted. These include Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), Reddit and YouTube.

Messaging services and online games, as well as apps and platforms that support health and education, can still be used.

How to help under 16s prepare for the change

Parents and carers play an important role in supporting their children to be safe online.

To help get under 16s ready for the social media minimum age requirements, you can go to the eSafety website to learn more about the social media age restrictions and find tips on how to talk about social media age restrictions with young people.

To keep up to date about the new social media age restrictions, please visit the eSafety website and subscribe to their newsletter. Any further advice from the Department of Education will be communicated when it becomes available.

Thank You

I would like to sincerely thank our entire Concord School community for your ongoing support and partnership throughout the year. It is this strong sense of connection and collaboration that allows our students to thrive, develop, and continue growing each year.

And to our students—a very big thank you for your enthusiasm, resilience, and the joy you bring to our school every day.

Wishing everyone a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable festive season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
