REFLECTION

In this season of Advent, Sunday’s Gospel introduced us to John the Baptist, a strong and courageous voice calling people to prepare their hearts for the coming of Jesus. John’s message is simple but powerful:  “Prepare the way of the Lord.”

John reminds us that preparing for Christ isn’t just about words or traditions—it’s about allowing God to shape us from the inside out. His call to “produce fruit in keeping with repentance” invites us to show our faith through our actions: kindness, honesty, compassion, and a willingness to begin again.

Just as John prepared the way for Jesus long ago, we too are called to prepare—through reflection, through acts of service, and by opening our hearts to God’s transforming presence. May this Advent be a time of renewal for our families and the St Liborius school community as we get ready to welcome Christ once again.

PRAYER

Loving God, As we listen to the call of John the Baptist,

help us prepare a place in our hearts for Jesus.

Give us the courage to change what needs changing,

and the wisdom to choose what is good and true.

Help us to show our faith

through kindness, honesty, and compassion,

so that our lives produce the fruits of love.

Cleanse our hearts, renew our spirits,

and guide the St Liborius school community

to walk in your light with hope and joy.

Come, Lord Jesus,

and make us ready to welcome you.

Amen.

The Second Candle of Advent – The Candle of Peace

This week we light the second candle on our Advent wreath: the Candle of Peace. As the soft glow of the wreath grows brighter, we are reminded that Jesus comes into our world to bring calm, hope and healing. The Peace candle invites us to pause in the busyness of this season and make space for God’s gentle presence in our hearts and in our relationships.

As a school community, we are encouraged to be peacemakers—showing kindness, offering forgiveness, and helping create a sense of calm and welcome for others. As we journey through Advent together, may this light inspire us to bring peace to our homes, our classrooms, and our world.

JUST LEADERS DAY

Last week, twelve Year 5 students were chosen to represent St Liborius at the Just Leaders Day hosted by St Francis of the Fields. The focus of the day was learning about the important work of Caritas Australia and how, as a Catholic organisation, they support people in need both here and around the world.

Students heard a range of interesting - and sometimes surprising - facts about global poverty and the impact Caritas has in improving lives. They then joined with students from St Mary’s Inglewood, St Francis of the Fields, and St Peter’s to brainstorm meaningful ways young people can take action and help fight against poverty in their own communities.

It was an inspiring day of learning, leadership and compassion, and our Year 5 representatives returned with a renewed commitment to making a difference.
