The students are enjoying their daily reviews in their Maths session.  These daily reviews are helping revise some of the learning we are currently doing as well as revising the learning we have done earlier in the year.  We are also looking at measurement and completing lots of hands-on activities while learning about length, mass and capacity.

In Humanities, we are at the conclusion of our Civics and Citizenship unit.  The students have thrived in their lessons on the three levels of government in Australia (local, State and Federal).

As we come towards the end of the school year, we are looking forward to our end of year celebration at Airoworld and have also been practising hard for our End-of-Year Concert.

Year 4

We’re now on the home stretch! It’s been a busy and exciting term, and here’s a snapshot of all the great learning our students have been doing.

Reading and Writing

Students have moved on from persuasive writing and The Wild Robot. They recently completed a book review and have now begun developing their analytical skills through the movie Inside Out. They are making connections to the characters, exploring both inside and outside traits, examining key themes, and even creating their own characters inspired by the movie. In writing, students are focusing on spelling and writing conventions, as well as engaging in some NAPLAN-style practice to ensure they are well-prepared for next year.

Year 5

Our Grade 5 students recently took part in an empowering Leadership Day here at Brookside P-9 and what a day full of energy that was! Our cohort kicked things off with an Amazing Race style challenges filled with fun, fast paced activities that encouraged teamwork, problem solving skills and plenty of obstacles for laughter and to build on resilience. From station to station, students demonstrated enthusiasm, team bonding and the chance to grow their leadership skills.

The Grade 5 students also took time to reflect on what truly makes a great leader, each Grade 5 teacher shared ideas about courage, kindness, initiative and the importance of supporting others this made for a great discussion on what qualities a leader has and what being a good leader looks like.  A highlight of the event was our special guest speaker, Sam Bramham an Australian Paralympic swimmer who captivated the students with his incredible life story. His message of embracing challenges and chasing big goals left the Year 5’s inspired and buzzing with SO many questions!!

Overall, our Leadership Day was a big success! The whole day was full of energy, curiosity, and plenty of fun. It really helped spark confidence and leadership skills in every student the Grade 5’s were fully engaged the whole day and walked away with valuable insights.
