Year 5/6

Inquiry Incursion: Parliament Process
This week in Grade 5/6, we were lucky enough to participate in a debate in the House of Representatives...from the comfort of our very own library! We learnt about the different roles and responsibilities of our government, as well as the procedures involved in an election. The class role played the process of running for parliament, voting for a preferred party, counting votes, setting up the House of Representatives accordingly, and debating a new law. The students played roles such as the Government, the Opposition, the Prime Minister, the Speaker, the Clerk, the Serjeant-At-Arms, Independent Parties and more. It was great fun, and generated lots of interesting discussion and new learning.
Writing: Choose Your Own Adventure!
This week we have been learning about the structural and language features of Choose Your Own Adventure story. We analysed model examples, and in groups, co-created our own story introduction. We focused on using descriptive language, present tense and second person pronouns. On Monday , the students worked in pairs to branch off from our co-written introduction to write ‘Option 1’ and ‘Option 2’ of their stories, taking their readers down different pathways. It’s been great fun and the class have produced some excellent stories so far- creative, engaging and witty!
