Celebrating National Reconciliation

Last  week, our school community came together to celebrate National Reconciliation Week. We used this time to reflect on our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, invites all Australians to reflect on our shared past, consider our present, and work together towards a more united future. This theme encourages us to step forward together, to look ahead, and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us.

Throughout the week, students engaged in various activities to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures. Some of these lessons were held in our house groups of mixed ages and some as lessons in the classroom. These included reading First Nations stories, Reconciliation Week themed prayers, learning about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements including topics such as the freedom ride and the stolen generations. Participation, deep discussion and a willingness to understand and learn from the past was evident. Some of our discussion centred around racism. What it is, how it affects individuals and communities and what we can do to combat it in our community going forward.

As we reflect on this year's theme, let us remember that reconciliation is a journey that requires ongoing commitment and action from all of us. Through education and understanding, we can take important steps forward towards achieving reconciliation in Australia.

We encourage all families to continue the conversation at home and explore ways to support reconciliation in our community. Together, we can build a more united and respectful nation.

I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and the fortnight ahead.
