Physical Education

An exciting visit:  On Monday 16th June we will be hosting some visitors at our school from 11am-11:45am.  Some AFLW Essendon players will be joining us for a Q&A session in the library followed by some skills practise on the oval.  We are looking forward to this visit and are grateful to AFL Victoria for reaching out and offering us this opportunity!

It has been a delight to witness our students engaging thoughtfully in our health discussions and enthusiastically in our physical activity component of our Health and PE sessions each week!

Our Grade F-2 students have enjoyed our recent soccer focus, developing their kicking skills and team work.  This week they have enjoyed commencing our dance topic.  We are focusing on following instructions and moving in time with the beat as we learn different dances.  It is lots of fun and a great workout!  During our health discussions we have explored how emotional responses can differ between individuals as well as how our emotional responses can impact our wellbeing.  We have also shared our own and others individual strengths and achievements and discussed the importance of acknowledging these to contribute to our wellbeing and the wellbeing of us as a class group and school community.

Our Grade 3-6 students have been playing t ball over the past fortnight. In doing so, we have been focusing on refining our fundamental motor skills of overhand throwing and catching as well as our two-handed side arm striking, in addition to developing our communication and team work skills.  It’s a fast paced and fun sport and it’s wonderful witnessing the students enjoyment and effort.  We have been focusing on the journey of the game rather than the result – we often discuss how fun it is trying and working as a team in addition to the benefits of participating in physical activity on our wellbeing, both as an individual and a collective.  During our health discussions, students have focused on celebrating our similarities and differences to strengthen both our individual and group wellbeing.

Regional Cross Country Event at St Arnaud – Congratulations to three of our students who represented our school and themselves last Tuesday 27th May at this event…well done to Clancy, Mitchell and Alastair on your participation, persistence and amazing effort! Clancy is eligible to advance to the next round, the State Cross Country, should he wish to progress, placing 5th in his age group!  Congratulations Clancy!
