MILGATE'S VISION

To provide a dynamic, inclusive learning environment that challenges students to become inquirers, thinkers and caring young people who are able to interact in the global society with respect and intercultural understanding

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

Milgate Primary School would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land of the Wurundjeri People and we would like to pay our respects to the elders both past and present. Staff, students and the school community understand that we thrive, learn and live on Wurundjeri Country and we stand with all cultures united as one.

CURRICULUM DAY | Monday 26 May

A reminder that Monday 26th May is a student-free day. On this day, our teaching staff will be at school focusing on assessment and reporting.

It will also be a valuable opportunity for classroom and specialist teachers to collaborate, ensuring alignment in strategies and adjustments to best support the students they share.

If your child requires supervision on this day, please ensure they are booked into Team Kids

YEAR 3 & 4 | SWIM PROGRAM

This week, our Year 3 & 4 students took their learning beyond the classroom with a visit to Aquarena Aquatic Centre. Throughout the program, they focused on key swimming skills including floating, kicking, and a range of strokes, while also deepening their understanding of vital water safety strategies, such as how to call for help in an emergency.

It was wonderful to see students demonstrate the risk-taker learner profile as they refined their swimming techniques and built greater confidence in the water. A big thank you to the parent helpers who generously supported the program.

YEAR 5 EXCURSION | MUSEUM

On Monday, our Year 5 students went to the Melbourne Museum as part of our How the world works inquiry into Earth and Space science. We started by watching a 3D documentary; 'The Story of Earth', followed by another captivating film called 'Deep Sky', which focused on the incredible capabilities of the James Webb Space Telescope. Following the documentaries, we explored the museum's diverse exhibits, including 'Dynamic Earth', '600 Million Years', and the 'Forest Gallery'. It was an educational and exciting day filled with exploration and discovery!

YEAR 1 | DANCE INCURSION

On Wednesday, the Year 1 students enjoyed the first of three exciting dance incursions at Milgate, as part of their How we express ourselves unit of inquiry. This session focused on Broadway-style dance, where students explored how to use facial expressions and body movements to express emotions and act out stories. It was a fun and energetic experience that encouraged creativity and confidence through movement.

RUBBISH CLUB

Last week, Benjamin and Arnika from Year 4 came to the Leadership team to ask if they could start a Rubbish Club. They wrote up information to communicate to the school community and spoke at Assembly. The Rubbish Club ran their first session on Tuesday at lunchtime and collected over 15 buckets of rubbish! It’s always wonderful to see the students taking action to make meaningful change, after identifying that there was too much rubbish being left in the yard. Well done Benji and Arnika!
