Amplify in Action: Future Problem-Solvers at Work!

Year 9 Amplify students have been taking action in the community as part of their project work, turning learning into meaningful impact this term. Below are just a few examples of some of the incredible activities our students have been involved in.

Ava Irwin & Lexie Howard

Lexie and Ava focused on the UN Sustainability Goal of Good Health and Wellbeing. As part of their project, they worked with two local community groups – Cunningham Downs and Vivid – with the aim of connecting three different groups within our broader community.

Their planning was thorough and thoughtful, including a risk assessment, mapping out a suitable walking route, and coordinating with each group involved. The initiative culminated in a successful 'walk and talk' event on a beautiful day, ending with a warm drink and conversation at The Odd Captain.

Ruby Morgan, Macey Boyd & Sadie Smith

Ruby, Macey and Sadie focused on the UN Sustainability Goal of Good Health and Wellbeing. They approached Vivid to volunteer at their local facility, aiming to build meaningful connections through inclusive activities.

The girls created a Google Form to give participants a voice in selecting the activities they would most enjoy. Over two weeks, they led engaging sessions - playing balloon tennis in the sunshine during the first visit and exploring creativity with water painting the following week - bringing joy and interaction to the participants.

Mac Dyson & Aiden Calleja

Mac and Aiden attended work placement at Nullabour Timber in Moama, focusing on sustainable timber, gaining hands-on experience in environmentally responsible forestry practices. By learning how timber can be sourced and processed with minimal ecological impact, they contribute to the promotion of sustainable industry and innovation. This directly supports UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and Goal 15 (Life on Land), as it fosters awareness of resource conservation and biodiversity protection. Such placements empower students to become future leaders in sustainable development, bridging education with real-world environmental impact.

We are excited to see how students will showcase their experiences and insights at the upcoming expo. It will be a fantastic opportunity for them to reflect on their learning, share their understanding of sustainable practices, and inspire others to think critically about the role of timber in a more sustainable future.

Thank you to Mandy and her team at Nullabour Timber for their support of our Amplify Program.

Lincoln Shandley and James Harris

Licoln and James have been demonstrating outstanding initiative and commitment through their Amplify project this term. In response to the rising cost of eggs, the boys identified a real-world issue within our school community and set out to find a sustainable solution.

After surveying key staff in the canteen and food technology areas, Lincoln and James discovered just how many eggs are used at school each week and the financial impact this has. From there, their idea took shape: to build a chicken coop and begin producing fresh eggs for school use.

Throughout the project, the boys have shown excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills. Their dedication, from researching designs to planning the build, reflects their genuine passion and responsibility for making a positive impact.

We look forward to seeing their hard work come to life - and to one day enjoying fresh, school-grown eggs thanks to this fantastic Amplify initiative!
