COLLEGE NEWS

From the Principal

Kristine MacPhail

Our students have been engaged in a wide range of educational and extracurricular pursuits, demonstrating resilience, creativity, and a commitment to their learning.

Academic Excellence

Our Year 12 students are working with their Deputy Principal to review their academic progress and growth over the last two and half terms. They are working with their ATAR predictions to set learning goals for the next 15 weeks. The focus is on making consistent positive behavioural and/or learning changes that drive improvement from one assessment task to the next, culminating with the HSC.

Nirimba Precinct Reconciliation Ceremony – ‘Bridging now to next’

The theme for this year’s Reconciliation Week encourages reflection on connecting to our historical context with future aspirations while envisioning a more unified and respectful future. This year’s Welcome to Country was delivered by Brooke Toli, a proud Darug and Awabakal woman, who works for the Department of Communities and Justice – Corrections. This high performing Western Sydney University alumnus has founded Warada Birth Education and Family Support – an initiative focused on improving maternal and infant health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander families through culturally safe, evidence-based education. It was great to come together as a precinct and for students from WCN to partner with WSU, Nirimba TAFE and St John Paul II Catholic College.

Teacher professional learning - School development day Term 3: Multicultural Education

At Wyndham College, we are dedicated to enhancing our teaching methods to support all our students. For the past few years, we have been focusing on explicit teaching, and this year, we are excited to take it a step further by specifically addressing the needs of our high potential and gifted (HPG) students. In Term 3, we will also be exploring effective teaching strategies for students for whom English is an additional language or dialect, ensuring that we continue to support HPG students within this group. To assist our staff in this endeavour, we are pleased to have Joanne Rossbridge working with us on expert teaching strategies that will benefit our entire learning community, as we strive to provide the best education for our students.

Children’s Online Privacy Code - The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC)

Children’s Online Privacy Code The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), the Australian Government’s privacy regulator, is seeking input from parents and carers to assist them in its development of the Children’s Online Privacy Code (the Code).

The Code will put children at the centre of privacy protections in Australia. By the time a child turns 13, it's estimated that 72 million pieces of data will have been collected about them. The aim of the Code is to strengthen privacy protections for the handling of children’s personal information. Your insights as a parent or carer are important.

To have your say, please take a few minutes to complete the parent discussion paper here:

Your support is also important in helping your child or young person to take part too, please assist them in filling out the appropriate worksheet, provided in the link above.

This consultation will be open until the 30 June 2025. You can read more about the Code here:

Nirimba Education Precinct Reconciliation Week

We would like to extend our thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the 2025 NEP Reconciliation Week Ceremony on 29 May 2025.

The gathering was a meaningful opportunity for reflection, respect, and unity, values at the heart of National Reconciliation Week. Through your presence and support, we were able to honour the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We are grateful to the NEP Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Working Group for their thoughtful planning and dedication. A special shoutout to Ann-Maree Ager, Jeff Dunn, Rasha Fitzsimon, Nereda Illingworth, and Evanessa Deguara for making this event possible.

Please enjoy some photos from the day, capturing moments of connection and community.

Let’s continue walking this journey together—with open minds, open hearts, and a shared commitment to learning, healing, and reconciliation.

UNSW Gateway Presentations Inspires Year 11 & 12 Futures

On Thursday 15 May, Wyndham Year 11 & 12 students participated in the UNSW Gateway Presentations. Guided by UNSW Gateway ambassadors, students explored their strengths and tools for success. They also reflected on their plans for after completion of Year 12.

We were delighted to see our former student, Rocklin D’Cruz, join us as a UNSW Gateway University Ambassador. Rocklin entered UNSW through the Gateway Admission Pathway and is studying a Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) degree. You can read more about the Sunswift racing program Rocklin is involved in through UNSW here: Meet the Team | Sunswift Racing

The presentation also introduced students to the UNSW Year 11 & 12 Gateway Program and Gateway Admission Pathway. Through registering for the UNSW Gateway online program, Wyndham College students can access free HSC support, tutoring, and instant access to the HSC4ME app -featuring practice exams, study notes, videos, and more, all developed by senior teachers and HSC markers. The Push-Up Challenge 2025

CALL TO ARMS AND ANY OTHER WORKING BODY PART. This is the 3rd consecutive year that Wyndham College is entering a team in the PUSH UP CHALLENGE. Our team is open to all Wyndham Staff and students. We are taking on The Push-Up Challenge from   4-26 June 2025 and would love you all to join our team.

The Challenge is to complete 3,214 push-ups (or 1,607 if you choose the half target) in 23 days to raise awareness and funds for mental health. OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL FOR THIS YEAR IS TO BREAK THE 3K FIGURE. This represents the 3,214 people who died by suicide in Australia in 2023 (the most recent stats), which is why WE want to push for better, and hope you will too.

Sound like too many push-ups? No worries, you can do the half target and substitute push-ups for alternative exercises, like squats and sit-ups or any body movement.

It’s free to take part and there is an app where you get daily targets and Mental Health Facts, track your progress and can check out our Team stats.

Visit our Team page to join the WYNDHAM COLLEGE team and push with us:
