Maths Quest – Year 1& 2 Extension Program

This term, I’ve had the pleasure of working with a bright and enthusiastic group of Year 1 students as part of our Maths Quest program. This extension class takes place every Tuesday at 11:45 AM and focuses on developing problem-solving strategies in a fun and engaging way.

About the Program

Maths Quest is an innovative teaching and learning program designed for high-achieving students. It introduces key problem-solving concepts during the early years of primary school, helping children explore mathematics in a creative and meaningful way.

Mathematics is not just about numbers—it's a creative subject that involves abstract thinking, reasoning, and the ability to find patterns and relationships. Our young learners naturally use these skills when solving unfamiliar and challenging problems.

Through a series of interactive and enjoyable tasks, Maths Quest encourages collaboration, teamwork, and peer learning. Students are supported with a wide range of resources, including instructional videos, lesson guides, digital tools, and learning station activities.

Program Goals

The main aims of Maths Quest are to:

  • Help students understand mathematical ideas rather than just memorising abstract concepts
  • Promote collaboration and peer learning
  • Encourage students to think creatively and approach problems from different angles
  • Build confidence in their mathematical abilities
  • Foster a love of mathematics and problem solving
  • Lay a strong foundation for future success in problem solving and prepare students for further enrichment opportunities through APSMO programs

It’s been a joy to see the students' enthusiasm and growth each week as they tackle new challenges and develop their mathematical thinking.
